Q: Is the embedded s/w similiar to blue iris? i like the features available with blue iris

Blue Iris might be "better" because it has more features, but Blue Iris requires a 'server' to be on 24/7. Running a 350w power supply 24/7 just to run security software is a commitment. I've run BI for years and installed it and friends/families houses. Between software updates, power outages and simple break/fix, I was basically an on-call IT person. However, when we all switched to Amcrest NVRs, this all went away. It's a solid, simple system that is stable as a rock. If you want the bells and whistles, get yourself a server and BlueIris - you better know your networking... If you want a solid system that does what it says without hassle, go with an NVR.

Q: can i add other brand cameras?

Amcrest doesn't recommend running 3rd party cameras with Amcrest Technologies due to software incompatibilities which will cause feature loss. Amcrest Team

Q: What is the difference between the nv4108-hs and nv4108e?

The NV4108-HS is for IP Cameras where they are added in with their IP Addresses. The NV4108E is for POE Cameras where the POE Cameras are plugged directly into the NVR. Amcrest Team
