Dependable CarPlay adapter fast and reliable
This is a really good adapter. It connects quickly and without issues and provides a hands free operation for vehicles that don’t come with CarPlay

Almost good
It’s great when it works. After about two weeks it started intermittent audio drops, like a CD skipping only more often. Then it started randomly rebooting to the point I’ve actually just gone back to using regular Bluetooth to my car.

It works, but not as well as some
In my never-ending quest to find the best wireless CarPlay adapter, I have tested several of these, including other units from Otto. This one is one of the more costly options, so I'm going to break down what I like and dislike in comparison to other (often less expensive) units. For the record, this was tested on a 2019 Subaru WRX with a factory head unit. What I like: it works more consistently than almost all the others I've tried. It connects quietly and stays connected. Several of the other units I've used will glitch, or won't connect, leading to a frustrating cycle of unplugging, reconnecting, and waiting. This one just seems to work, and it's the most consistent of the bunch. It also doesn't boot to a 'splash' screen like almost all the others I've used. This is a nitpick on the others, but most of them show some intro screen with a logo and nine languages of text that just makes them feel cheap - this one doesn't do that, and it goes straight into 'connected.' It also has an AirPlay screen mode, which admittedly I haven't really tested because I don't have much use for it. (CarPlay works fine for me!)What I don't like: it definitely connects much more slowly than the others I've used. Often it feels like it's not going to connect - but it always does eventually. Also, strangely it doesn't switch my head unit directly into CarPlay mode once connected like the others do. It does immediately start playing my music, but I have to physically push the CarPlay button on my head unit every time in order to get the display to appear, which seems pretty odd to me. (none of the others do this)Size and stats: it's pretty large when compared to some other units I've tested, but it does appear to stay cooler to the touch, and I just have it stowed in the center console anyway. It has a pass-through USB port on it, which I haven't yet tested - but it appears that at least you wouldn't give up your only charge port if you only had one. This is a pretty unique feature among the others I've tested, which all take the whole port.Overall, it works well, but it's not my favorite of the bunch. I'll keep using it because it's definitely the most reliable of all of them, but for the price there are definitely options if you can handle the trade-offs. If reliability is key to you, however - this is one of your best choices.

Inconsistent Performance
I bought the first unit and I had nothing to say than perfect. I decided to order exactly the same model for 2 other cars but I cannot replicate the same performance. With frequency unit disconnects and take up 10 minutes to connect Firmware is the latest one, I have reset and reinstalled even change between cars. No luck. Customer support just does not support or respond, they just keep saying they will get back to you.

Didn't work for my application
Tried using this device w my Porsche 718 Cayman. My goal was to use the device to allow me to use Android Auto thru the Porsche OEN infotainment system. The OEM system has built-in Carplay, but no Android. The Ottocast device was supposed to allow me to use AA by accessing the device-hosted AA thru the OEM Carplay. It worked when I first installed it, but it would not work after disconnected and reconnected. And I tried hard to make it work.
