WD products work well
I like small compact , about the size of a deck of playing cards.

Questionable WD software
Be aware that the clever SMR (Shingled Magnetic Recording) system used to make this drive compact and affordable, with fewer platters, results in erratic and generally slow data transfer speed. And then there is the issue of Western Digital Software.I assumed I needed to run the WD software (included on disk) to get the advertised encryption. A window opened which said "Connecting" and stayed open for a long time--two or three minutes, even though I have a fast internet connection. What was going on, I do not know. Finally I was given the "install" option. It asked if I would allow it to send usage data to WD. I said no. Another "Connecting" window opened. Finally I got tired of waiting and also somewhat concerned about the drive's activity, so I aborted the installation. But when I checked Task Manager, WD software was still listed as active, and the LED in the drive was still flashing. I ended the WD process, and then finally the LED stopped flashing. What was going on? I have no idea. I cannot believe that WD would be making money out of customer data so that it can reduce the price of its drives.
