Q: Do you process your compost before adding it ? Does it need to go into a yard composter afterwards? How is the smell?

After about 3 months, your worm friends will process all the material in the bin as well as what food scraps you put into it. When you're ready to harvest, you just stop feeding for about 3 weeks and the entire bin should look like black coffee grounds. Then just follow the harvesting methods (instructions available on our website or videos on our youtube) you can harvest the worm castings. You can use it directly on plants or you can use the bottom green bucket and spigot to make it into a liquid version called "Worm Tea" and you can feed that liquid to your plants or spray on the leaves. If you follow our instructions it should not smell - only like fresh soil or dirt. No unpleasant smells as long as you don't overfeed it.

Q: What's the maximum capacity of worms this product can hold? Thinking to get 500 worms to start. Is it too much?.

Hi there. Excellent question. I don't believe 500 worms is too much (especially if they are red wigglers) but in our instruction guide we recommend 250 or 1/4 lb of red wigglers to start. They will naturally increase their population until they've hit the max size they are comfortable with and then their breeding will slow.

This is good for 1-2 persons. It is suggested to start with 1/4 lb of worms, so you could put about 1/4 lb of organic food waste per day. We recommend feeding all at once up to about a pound - about every 10-14 days.

Q: Can this bin be set up outside all year round (NorthEast area)?

I’m in Massachusetts and I have this inside in my kitchen. I think it would be too cold for them to be outside. However, I will say that it is very clean and compact. The rest of the family in the house has no idea I have it.😈 good luck
