My favorite safe cutter
If you frequently open boxes or break down cardboard for recycling, the Slice Manual Carton Cutter is a noteworthy tool to consider. Leveraging a ceramic blade designed to last longer than traditional metal blades, this cutter focuses on safety, durability, and user comfort.Key FeaturesCeramic Blade TechnologyThe biggest selling point of Slice tools is their ceramic blade, which the company claims lasts up to 11 times longer than standard steel. In practice, these blades tend to stay sharp for significantly longer, meaning you won’t have to replace the blade nearly as often.Ceramic is also chemically inert and never rusts, so it’s low-maintenance even if you’re cutting through slightly damp or sticky materials.Safety-First DesignUnlike a typical metal box cutter, the Slice blade features rounded tips and a proprietary grind, which makes accidental skin contact less likely to cause deep cuts. The manual slider mechanism lets you adjust the blade’s length—usually between a very short “exposed” length for shallow cuts and a slightly longer setting for deeper cuts.Compact, Ergonomic BuildThe cutter’s small, lightweight body is easy to hold and maneuver, especially when slicing through tough or awkwardly shaped packaging.A textured grip or slight ridging often found on Slice products helps prevent slips, offering better control for precise cutting.Blade Retraction OptionsSlice offers different styles: some are manual retraction (you push the slider up and it stays), while others have auto-retraction (the blade retracts when not in use). This specific model, the Manual Carton Cutter, stays out until you retract it yourself—ideal for longer cuts but requires you to remember to retract for maximum safety.PerformanceCutting Efficiency: It slices through most standard cardboard boxes with minimal effort. The ceramic blade can also handle materials like plastic wrap and packaging tape.Longevity: True to the claims, the blade remains sharp through multiple heavy-use sessions. While the exact lifespan depends on frequency and type of use, most users find they replace blades far less often than with metal alternatives.Precision: The short blade exposure ensures cleaner, more controlled cuts and helps prevent accidental slicing through layers you don’t intend to cut.Pros & ConsProsLong-Lasting Blade: Ceramic edges stay sharp far longer than standard metal.Rust-Free & Low Maintenance: Ideal for work environments where tools might get damp or dirty.Safety-Oriented: Rounded blade tips and short extension reduce risks of accidental deep cuts.Ergonomic & Lightweight: Comfortable to hold, making repetitive cutting less fatiguing.ConsNot for Heavy-Duty Materials: If you frequently cut very thick or tough materials (like heavy plastic or thick foam), you may need a heavier-duty knife.Manual Retraction: You have to consciously retract the blade each time for safety—some might prefer auto-retraction models.Higher Initial Cost: Ceramic-blade cutters can be pricier upfront compared to basic metal utility knives, but lower blade replacement frequency can offset this over time.Final ThoughtsThe Slice Manual Carton Cutter excels if you’re seeking a safer, longer-lasting box cutter for everyday tasks. Its ceramic blade design reduces the frequency of blade replacements and lowers the risk of deep accidental cuts, all while delivering clean slices through standard cardboard and packing materials. While it may not be the best choice for extremely heavy-duty applications, its ergonomic build and easy handling make it a top pick for home or workplace environments where safety and convenience are paramount.Highly recommended for those who open and break down boxes regularly, or anyone who values the added safety features and long life of a ceramic blade.

Best box cutter by far
If you need to open boxes, this is the best knife I’ve found. Tape DOES NOT stick to the blade - I’ve cut open hundreds and it is still as clean as the day I got it. It doesn’t really dull, either: besides boxes I’ve scored drywall, marked wood, and etched glass and the blade is as effective as ever. It doesn’t really matter that it’s not “sharp”, because the blade is so hard that it will cut through things regardless. And it is skin safe for the most part, you can’t cut yourself without really doing something dangerous. Is this the best knife ever? Despite everything above, no - the blade is too short, and I do miss having a tip to poke through plastics. But if you’re opening boxes daily, this is the best knife I’ve found by a wide margin.

Safe for kids!
I recently discovered a gem for opening packages, especially all those Amazon deliveries – the Slice Manual Carton Cutter with a Finger-Friendly Ceramic Blade. Let me tell you, it's a game-changer!The ceramic blade is not only super sharp but also finger-friendly, ensuring a smooth and safe cutting experience. No more worrying about accidental cuts or rusty blades. Plus, the design is so sleek and ergonomic – it feels like it was made for my hand!I've been using it for a while now, and it makes the process of opening packages quick, efficient, and, dare I say, enjoyable. If you're tired of struggling with dull blades or traditional cutters, give this Slice Carton Cutter a try. Trust me; you won't be disappointed!

Blade mechanism easily slips back into the protective sheath
I really like this, as it's very safe to open packages and easy to use, however, the blade mechanism easily slips back into the protective sheath, so I use a binder clip the size of the protective sheath to hold the blade mechanism in place when using it. Works fine.

great safer blade
This ceramic box cutter is a good alternative to steel blade. I have been using these box cutter for a couple of years now and I only had to replace blades once so far. I use them daily to cut open boxes and slice open packaging in a warehouse and they do the job. I wouldn't recommend this for very heavy duty use. The blade is just sharp enough to do what I need to do but not sharp enough to cause too much harm if I make a mistake. I have converted a couple of coworkers to use these blades and they said they will never go back to steel blades again. Overall this box cutter is great but the only downfall is the orange part is made of plastic and is warn down over time where it hits the box as it cuts. Only time will tell if it will ware down too much to make it unusable

Works great and much safer than traditional blades
We have multiple products from Slice and they’re all terrific. They work really well and are much safer than traditional blades. Packing tape adhesive doesn’t stick to the blade, which is a really nice bonus.

Works as advertised
What a great little tool. You can keep it in your pocket without worrying about getting cut. It absolutely will not cut your skin. But I use it for opening boxes and deliveries. Cuts right through cardboard like a champ. Very sharp for what it’s needed for. Highly recommended I would purchase it again.
