I thought my old remote didn't work because of the batteries but it was actually just because it somehow got disconnected from the Roku. Luckily I had the Roku remote app on my phone which I used to connect both this new remote and my old remote from the settings in Roku. I tried all kinds of different methods and nothing else worked but I was delighted that this did. I am keeping the new remote because unlike the old one it has a button to turn the TV on and off and also sound control for the TV. I really like it!

ALMOST PERFECT!
I first purchased a Roku Pro remote with voice usage capability and UBS rechargeable batteries. Tried everything suggested to get it to work, but never succeeded in getting the voice control to connect. Returned and ordered a newer version of my old remote and it connected immediately! Still have to use AA batteries, but it responds to voice control -my most important criteria!
