Q: Do you recommend using these in a tubeless setup?

They could help make it easier to add Stan's tape. I run them in a tube style wheel with tubes for approximately 5,000 miles on both front and rear wheels. Are you using tubeless rims, or are you doing a ghetto tubeless setup?

Q: The 8.5 mm, is this the yellow plugs. my strips cut on the edge of the holes over time, i am tubeless, 60 psi on gravel bike. i will tape over holes.

Use tubeless rim tape for running tubeless, absolutely not Veloplugs. Veloplugs are for standard tires with tubes only.
