Comfortable
I bought this for my husband who had neck surgery and he says it is a nice alternative to the brace the doctor gave him. It’s easier to sleep in and still provides the support he needs.

Helped me pass the CPA exam
I get neck pain when sitting for a long periods, particularly when I have my head tilted down like when reading a book. I bought this to help support my neck and keep it straight while studying long hours for the CPA exam. It worked great! Comfortable but firm enough to provide good support. I'm 5'4" and a skinny 120lbs. I got the 3" and it worked perfect. Still looks almost new and will probably have it for life.

My go to collar for sleep (CPAP)
I use a CPAP machine for apnea, but thanks to a horribly deviated septum (compounded by having my nose broken a few times thanks to an exciting youth) spent the majority of my life unable to properly breathe through my nose. So I’m a mouth breather, even though I can now breathe through my nose thanks to a septoplasty several years ago. Some things cannot be unlearned, at least when I sleep. Toss in apnea and all the fun of sleeping in a mask, a la Alien facehugger, and the best solution I could find is to sleep with a cervical collar. As a bonus it prevents an old neck/back injury from giving me issues.I have used several of the off white collars that work fine, but quickly look a bit funky thanks to sweat (and drool), even going so far as to keep several in rotation to have a relatively clean one available. But they eventually look funky no matter how many times washed in hot water and bleach (which is definitely not the labeled wash). This is not the only reason I chose this black colored model, as it also offers a bit more support in keeping my jaw closed while the CPAP inflates my lungs (I’m partial to the Resmed P10 sinus pillow model), thanks to the different options of thickness, 3.5” in this instance. The material is soft and washes easily. I usually wash it with my weekly linen change, running the allergy setting on the wash and machine dry on medium. Piling is minimal, or at least less visible, and still holding shape after a year of daily use (even for the ever so brief weekend naps) and wash. And no more grungy looking collar.

Don't Mess Around With Spinal Pain--See an Orthopedic!
Not for serious cervical spine issues!!! I cannot stress enough the importance of seeking the help of an orthopedist and/or cervical spine surgeon if you are in serious nerve pain--I mean the kind of pain where you can no longer function in life, avoid activities, etc. On 7/2/14, I began what has been a year-long journey that has tested me to the limit. After a 7/5/2014 visit to the ER due to pain, I was directed to see a general practitioner (GP) and encouraged to wear a foam cervical collar if it helped. What I found is that, when worn as directed, it supported under the chin, but provided no support to the back side of the neck. Too bad I had a severely pinched nerve on back side of the neck, which this type of collar actually exacerbated. I quit wearing it. I knew I had a pinched nerve because I had numbness, tingling, and burning pain in the fingers of my left hand. Unfortunately, my medical insurance company forced me to undergo weeks of physical therapy (PT) that didn't work. Bear in mind that PT can solve many people's neck-pain issues. The GP requested an MRI twice, each of which was rejected by my health insurance. I got an appointment with an orthopedic, who immediately got approval for the MRI. It showed I had Displacement of Cervical Intervertebral Disk w/ Myelopathy. It took until 10/1/14 to get surgery, a Left C5-6 and C6-7 (Posterior) Laminoforaminotomy/Microdiscectomy. This minimally invasive surgery (w/ a one-inch scar) helped me become functional again in life, but I was unable to get more than 25% relief from pain.A March 2015 MRI showed that those same two disks were continuing to degenerate--that I had Cervical Spondylosis Without Myelopathy. On 5/20/2015, I had a "spinal fusion," a C5-6 and C6-7 Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) With Allograft and Autograft Bone Graft--and an overnight hospital stay. I now have a metal plate with three screws holding my C5, C6, and C7 vertebrae together while my body grows bone to fill-in where the two disks once were. I am finally experiencing real relief--nearly 85%!!! Post-surgery, the surgeon issued a ProCare Transitional 172 Cervical Collar that I could take off to eat and sleep during the first 4 weeks. It completely stabilizes the cervical spine. For the next 5 months, I only have to wear it if I'm out of the house--in the car, outdoors, or in places with stairs or other trip hazards. The collar is specially sized, depending on YOUR neck measurements. DO NOT just buy one of these on-line! If you're in that much discomfort, for heaven's sake, see a doctor. Do not postpone. If you have severe disk degeneration, remember that the disks are what hold your spine together. In a vehicular or other accident, you are at high risk of paralysis if your disks are more-or-less gone. If you have true nerve pain symptoms, skip the GP and get to an orthopedist. Don't suffer as long as I had to! If surgery is needed, find a cervical spine specialist with an excellent record--don't settle! I hope this is helpful

Worse than trash...
...at least I get some use first out of most of the things that end up in the trash.First, some background:I'm pretty seriously disabled with multiple sclerosis, I have to sleep in my recliner because I can't get into a bed. If I don't use some kind of neck brace my head hangs down and hurts my neck and upper back muscles terribly since I also never seem to be able to lie back far enough to prevent that from happening. I really need a different recliner, but that's another story.I originally purchased the 2", (mostly because I really wasn't paying enough attention :^\ ), and it never did what I needed it to, I foolishly thought that the problem was just the height, so I purchased the 3". I'm not sure what I was thinking because my very first thought when I got the 2" was that the padding was much too skinny, there's just no thickness there at all to aid in supporting your head. When I got the 3" that problem seemed extremely exaggerated. When I put it on, no matter how snuggly, it offers no support whatsoever. My head can flop right over because this thing will just fold over with no resistance to it at all.I wouldn't recommend this to anyone for any purpose, a complete waste of my money.I had intended to write this review after my first day with it, unfortunately, it's taken a little longer than that. I wish I had done it then, maybe I could've saved someone from dealing with this thing.
