Just fabulous!
I used to have a Prestige Hi-dome - which was fine actually although yes it did hiss a bit - but when the link was suggested between aluminium and altzheimers, I stopped using it. I have often thought about getting a replacement but just never got round to it. However, I make stock often, and soups, and casseroles and so, because of the terribly high price of fuel, decided to get one. I hummed and hawed before buying this particular model; it was the one I wanted but was so expensive. I very luckily managed to get a bargain through Amazon Warehouse and got an 8 litre Hotel model for £135.00 If I had known how much pressure cookers have improved since my Prestige went, I would have just paid full price - £170.00 ish and got one months ago. I have used it every day since. It is a bit big, but you can cook tiny amounts in a big pressure cooker but you can't cook large amounts in a small one. It hasn't actually been put away in my pan drawers yet, it sits on the stove top, looking magnificent and shiney. I have made stocks in 30 minutes, casseroles, meatballs in sauce, soup, pot roast, soaked beans cook min 10 minutes - yes that is 10 minutes!!! I haven't done any puddings but that is because my husband is supposed to be on a diet - my eldest son is visiting next week and I will make some then. It is practically silent although it can hiss a bit whilst you are getting used to how low to turn the gas down - (as low as it will go is about right) and very little smell escapes so you don't need to run the extractor once the lid is locked on. It is really quick and easy to wash up. It's just fabulous - I am so pleased with it. The build quality is excellent - I am sure that the other ranges of cooker that Kuhn Rikon make are just as good. Nothing has stuck on the bottom, unlike my Prestige - food was always getting stuck/burnt on if I wasn't really careful - this particular range of cooker has a very thick base. You can easily make a one-pot meal in one of these - they are head and shoulders above slow cookers, which I have never liked much. The one teensy gripe is that, even though it is so expensive, it comes with a trivet but not a steam basket - it doesn't really matter as you can put other dishes in if you want to (pyrex) but I will buy a steam basket as well at some point. Buy one and use it. You won't regret it and it will save you money in the long run - and it looks fab.

Virtually silent
This is my 3rd pressure cooker, prev 2 were Presto. At 8 litres/28cms it is 1/3 larger than my prev models. It is absolutely brilliant. Comes up to pressure rapidly. Leave it to point it HISSES. This is actually to just beyond a proxy 3rd pressure ring (cooker has 2 pressure ring indicators). So 17psi / 1.2bar. Turn gas to low. Pressure cooker goes silent but holds this higher pressure. Fantastic! This is the "hotel" version so no gizmos, just plain vanilla. Consider the wider 28cms model if using for jam say (wider better than higher, more surface area = less spills). That said it is wide pot. Others mention a narrower (higher) pot less easy to use. Pleased I took their advice. It Swiss, expensive, v well made. Note the silicon sealing ring (twice price my prev models) is v robust. I can't see it needing to be replaced any time soon. So maintenance should be low and running costs v low compared with my prev much more "pressure leaky models."Marmalade. 10 mins for quartered segments.Beetroot. 10/15 mins small/medium.As seal is so good it will need minimal water. If your budget allows, highly recommend. One thing, I searched for this via Google. On clicking on the offered Amazon choice I was surprised to be offered £20 (10%) off as referral.

Good quality but design issue
This a a good lump of stainless steel with quality finish and components. The only comments I would make is the instructions for fitting the seal to the lid may as well be written in Mandarin and the diagram is as clear as Ikeas efforts,Secondly in use watch when you open the lid as the steam will burn your fingers because the handles are so short. Better to buy the pot version with the long handle!Thirdly, the pressure indicator is a spring loads stem with two red bands on it. Due to the shiny reflective surface it can look like two red bands are showing when it's actually only one and it's reflection! This will result in an undercooked dish so beware of that. Pul the stem up and have a good look at the bands so you know what to look for when cooking.

Good piece of equipment
Very well made. Has been used a lot already. My hubby insisted we get this large size to pot roast meat and chickens even though we are just two most of the time. Did not like the chicken but a brisket roast was so tender and juicy. Will come into its own in the winter months for casseroles and one pot dishes such as chili or curry. This is my first pressure cooker even though I am in my sixties. We got this as I cook every day and we wanted to cut down on our energy bills. The first time I had trouble regulating the heat and maintaining the pressure level as I used the regular size hob on my gas cooker. I was afraid of using a higher flame on the larger gas ring with not being used to it. But because of the large diameter of the pressure cooker I found it works perfectly on the large gas ring (but not the large double ring for wok cooking). Once it reaches the correct pressure I simply turn it down to the lowest setting and barely have to watch it as it maintains the pressure evenly.I do wish we had plumped for a slightly smaller size as I wanted to cook rice in it too, but this is too big for a two person serving. Will be great though when the extended family are here. Perhaps at some point we might get a smaller one too. So no regrets.

Fantastic quality, stylish, extremely quiet, strong & robust
Just love this pressure cooker. Although, expensive but worth every penny. Had an old one for the last 33 years which takes time to cook & time to change for a better one.

Excellent!
Very pleased with the quality and performance of this pressure cooker, fantastic results if you use the cooking times advised in the manual, would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to cook in a hurry! 8lt is a big big though, I think the 6lt would be perfectly adaquate for a family of 4-5.
