Yes it's hockey tape. But this is also THE best tape for added grip on your AR style grips and other sticks that need better grip.

Only sticks to itself
I used this on an old putter grip that was getting hard and cracking. I’ll be purchasing a new putter soon and didn’t want to regrip this one. The tape went on easily and has held up well the two rounds of golf I’ve played with it. I actually like the feel of it. I was surprised to find out that you need to end the wrap by wrapping it over itself. It would not stick to the putter grip alone.
