First, let's start with the pricing. The cost is amazing. For what I would expect to pay for one pair, I actually got TWO PAIRS of these sliding hinges.How well do they work? Well, thus far they have worked very well. I used them to support the lid of a very large laser enclosure that I built. They are a bit noisy, but this was to be expected. The noise comes from the ratchet popping in and out of each position as you slowly raise the lid. It is a very solid mechanical device.Please note that when you attach the left and right side hinges, that they have to be very close to the exact same position. This will help each side to ratchet into the same hole at the same time. It doesn't have to be microscopically perfect, but it helps to be as close as possible.Something you may need to know: At each end of the device, there is a mounting plate that is about 1/2" x 2" in size. Each of those two plates has a pair of holes for mounting. The thing to know is that at one end the mounting plate may be on the left side, while on the opposite end, the mounting plate will be on the right side. So, please consider that when planning on how it is to be mounted in your application.In my case, that was a BIG problem, because I needed the mounting plates to be on the same side... it was being mounted to a large heavy box, with a heavy wooden lid. What's the remedy to this? I simply ground off the top of the large rivet, so that it would come apart. After cleaning it up, I switched the plate to the other side, and put a bolt through it... and held it in place with a marine nut. But wait there's more to know: this causes an unusual bowing-outward force on the ratcheting mechanism that it does NOT like. To remedy this, I went to the other end of the device, held it in a vise, and tapped the end piece with a hammer until it bent inward a few degrees (it doesn't take much). Then when it is mounted, that bend is trying to force the hinge towards my box lid just a bit... and now the ratcheting mechanism works PERFECTLY every time. Very easy fix for my application.Bottom line: I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER WITH THIS PURCHASE!
