Q: Does this work on tarnished or oxidized metal? Chemically, or with a micro abrasive in it? If so, would you compare it to...1000 grit? 2000 grit? I already have plenty of chemical cleaners for copper or brass, so am looking for something that will not scratch but be more versatile for other metals. Thanks.

It's a cream. No abrasive grit in it. I can't speak of the chemical reaction though. I have used it on brass, copper, and steel so far with no problems. Even polished a shell casing from a 5-inch gun round to a high shine.

Q: Can this be used on painted surfaces that have been stained by rust?

This product is a metal polish designed for tarnished/stained metal's and works well...do not believe it will remove rust! JPB

Q: Does the container indicate whether it's flammable? Would it be safe to use on exterior surfaces of my stainless steel bbq grill?

Not flammable and with a buffer your grille will shine like a mirror.. a stainless grille usually works fine with a green scrubber pad and any powdered cleanser. Do you really want a shiny polished grille?
