Q: Do I need anything other than brewing sugar and the can of mixture?

I just use ordinary granulated sugar from super market and it turns out great, don't buy expensive on line goods, not necessary, the only other thing you need is patience and bottles. Have been brewing for 2 years now and have never had a failure. The finish product is great, I have given bottles to friends and they agree it's one of the best beers they have tasted. Q: Can anyone tell me how long it will keep for in a pressure barrel after it has been brewed?

Hi Providing that the barrel is not started this stout will keep for some months in the barrel (for aging and maturing purposes) but once started the barrel should be consumed within 3 weeks or so as after this the stout will start to go past it's best, it will still be drinkable but it will not be at it's best. If you are not sure you can consume it all in this time frame we would suggest you barrel 2 gallons of it in to a smaller 2 gallon barrel such as we supply under ASIN B002R69T84 and bottle the rest into glass or plastic bottles as it will keep for many months in the bottles. Q: What is the strength and does it have a 'homebrew' taste?

The strength, I assume you mean alcohol,however this depends on a number of things,correct steady tempreture,right amount of sugar,and so on. If you are an experienced home brewer aim to get 4%. Coopers are very good for not having the homebrew taste,again though it`s about carbonation and clearing the brew with finings,etc,to get a great result. Add Co2 also. TREAT YOUR WORT WELL. It can actually be as good as beer from the pub,if your brewing skills are good. Hope this helps.

I don't keg I bottle and add half teaspoon of sugar to each bottle..works for me..lovely beer with good head
