Small But Not Smart.

First off, I am no tech wizard. I buy stuff and just want to get on and use it. So, the brief instructions for this were almost the ticket. Except they were a bit too brief in places. Luckily common sense came to my aid.I wanted this not just to transfer cassettes and a few vinyls to MP3 but also to record direct off my internet radio. It's sometimes such a faff having to wake up the laptop to record an internet stream you can easily access on a radio.Let's be very clear. This unit it not for hifi buffs. It only records in MP3 joint MONO. So the quality is never gonna be brilliant. If you have serious needs for recording there are really good software packages and digital sound recorders with Thier own microphones that can do stereo, so go there. However, this is a nifty little unit. Two things I have learnt straight away. Make sure your storage is FAT32. Also make sure it USB 2 or better. I used an old Tesco USB 1 stick and the recordings skipped and missed bits because the data is saved too fast.In the instructions it says turn volume up on recording source to full if using headphones socket as source out. Very wise. The unit itself is set at a low level for recording, presumably to avoid over modulation and distortion. Even the line out level was low. This does give good headroom for any processing you may want to do in something like Audicity. It's simplicity of use is its main selling point. Connect up, insert storage and when ready press record and off you go. I recorded two lengthy internet shows with ease and for my use, they turned out just fine. But, this unit really is not the thing got serious users. But it's fun to use and does a half decent job.

Very pleased with this ability to rescue old music

For a cheap piece of kit it works well.I have it set up with an old cassette recorder so I can transfer my dozens of old tapes to USB.However not all usb devices work with it, I think the smaller 32m seem to be the maximum size compatible.A couple of times it stopped recording but I think that was due to the input source being too quiet. But having this has rescued so much good music from my tapings of old John Peel shows that I am extremely pleased.

It records and plays back but a bit fussy with Sandisk memory cards.

I bought this to add to my arsenal of recording equipment for quick records. Tested it on an portable record player and it recorded the files perfectly from an old LP. I plugged the record player into the RCA sockets on the unit. Quite easy to use as it's a one button press on the little unit for record and another press to stop recording. One can use the remote control record button for the same purpose. Also a good feature is that one can actually listen to the playback once recorded to USB memory stick via the remote control buttons and also alter the volume. You can also monitor the recording live (whilst being recorded' via head phones or power speakers. Very handy indeed.) The recording is not top quality at 128 kbps but quite OK if one is not overly fussy. One can always put the recording through Audacity or similar audio editor to improve quality if one wants. So far so good and value for money and hope it lasts. I've got boxes of Tapes and LP's and 45's that I want to digitise and this will fit the bill for most of the music.. One thing I noticed is that the inputs are for line in only no provision for Magnetic Cartridges but that is not a problem as I presume one can easily use a preamp plugged into the unit to compensate. I will try that later. But for most cheapo record decks this is ideal to digitalise one's collection of LPs. The recording I did was fine but be aware to make sure the output on whatever you connect is high enough. Most line out equipment is but can vary. I will test it with the other audio equipment I have in due course. Be aware that the manufacturer do tell you there can be a problem with Sandisk memory cards not being recognised or faulty recordings. I used a Sandisk Cruser 8 gigabyte memory stick (Flash drive) and that worked fine. I did try a Sandisk memory card and the unit refused to do anything. But a flash drive is so much easier. I played back the recording on the my desktop computer which has an good sound system and considering the low bit rate of the MP3 files the recordings were acceptable. I then improved on them in Audacity and they were better. I tend to be a bit fussy though. Regardless this little unit is good value for money. Add a provision for Magnetic Cartridges input and it would be even better but of course that will increase the price. I might edit my review if necessary.

Only records for 6 mins

Really disappointed in this item. The sound quality of the recording is terrible. Will only record up to 6 minutes or me which is absolutely no good as I bought into record my DJ sets. But only recording for 6 minutes is not enough.

Impressive

I purchased this for one explicit reason - to digitize the audio from over my collection of over 200 (40+ years old) 12" singles on my (40+ years old) Citronic DJ record decks. I have to say it performs fantastically. OK so it tops out at only 128kps but the sound quality is absolutely fine for me. I then take the mp3's and run them through Adobe Audition to remove any hiss, pops and turntable rumble and the the job's a good 'un. The stand-out feature of this little device is the audio out connection so you can just leave it connected in-line whether you are in a mood to record or not.Thoroughly recommended.

Nice and simple but one massive flaw

I needed something to record vinyl > digital as well as live mixes. This is so nice and simple but has one huge flaw in that when I record anything, it skips beats erratically on play back. Have tried using various power sources & USBs but does the same annoying thing to every recording.
