Easy set up, easy to use
The media could not be loaded. My 3 month old puppy picked this up almost immediately. They only arrived yesterday and she already has learned to hit "play" if she wants me to engage in play with her. I trained her by withholding the toy then hitting the button while also saying the word "play" several times. I then stopped hitting the button and she quickly realized that if she hit it play would start back up. The only issue is she's struggling to hit the button every time and gets really frustrated. If she's really close then I'll sneakily hit it for her so she doesn't feel defeated.

Comparison between Fluent pet and Hunger for words
The media could not be loaded. I recorded both buttons at the same time and then played back to see how loud and clear they were. “Fluent pet speak up” button is louder and clearer but also more expensive. The “Hunger for words” button is larger, uses 2 AAA batteries. Both are easy to record. Both require a small Philips screwdriver to open the back to insert batteries. Fluent pet comes with batteries and screwdriver. Hunger for words does not provide screwdriver or batteries. Price reflects some of these differences. I removed a star for value because I do feel that Fluent Pet is very pricey.

Worth it.
I bought this for the neighbor’s dog. (Don’t you judge me! 😎) She’s taking to it slowly, but I think it might be relative to the owner’s training commitment. The buttons are great. The mats are great. The batteries are replaceable. The size of the buttons is fine for any breed. Not too small. If I can do it with my foot, so can a Great Dane. The neighbor’s Cockapoo is smart as a whip and I think she will get the hang of it. Worth the effort and the money.

Loud and clear
These may be a tad too loud, but they are clear and work great. My cat has no interest even when I tried training with treats. She cares not.The item itself is great but only buy these if you have a really motivated pet.

A nice concept, it needs better set up.
The product is well organized upon opening and clearly labeled. There are two sets of directions. The directions that are in pictures and with words were the easiest ones for me to follow. My dog understood this very well and was almost immediately successful. The batteries are the little very small like watch batteries. It takes three batteries for each button. The batteries wear out quickly and are expensive to replace. The buttons come out of the base rather easily as my dog is learning to paw the button. Overall, I would not recommend this product

Great starter set
Easy to use, great price for a starter pack. She picked it up pretty quickly. Went to the website to buy the next set on buttons direct from them. With a discount code. Can’t wait to add to her vocabulary.

One week in and my cat is slowly getting the hang of it.
My cat is 3 years old and I have a hard time deciphering when she wants her scratches vs when she wants food. This is one of the best purchases I've done for my pet, because I am hopeful she will start being able to tell me what she wants. I'm about a week in and so far I've gotten to have her press and learn one button somewhat. I have to do say that you will need to be patient, as for each animal is different. It comes with a QR code that you can scan and read a general set of advices and tips. And please, do not start with the word Treat or any food related commands. I did scratches, as she LOVES scratches and now she can once in a while let me know when to give attention. Do not expect your animal to quickly learn and be able to teach it multiple words at a time. Patience is the key, and slow and steady wins the raise. The only thing I wish was different was the amount of pressure that it takes to press the button. It is a plastic button, so it has to *click* to make a sound, which proved difficult for my cat to learn how much pressure is needed. A little bit more sensitivity would help, especially if you pet is on the lighter side, or gentler. But overall, still happy I purchased this and I'm excited to see what new vocabulary my cat can learn and "talk" to me.

Best Thing I Ever Did for my Dog Was to Buy These Buttons
I purchased this set 2 years ago and it changed everything for the better. I got this for my senior, 15 year old beagle about 5 months before she passed away (YES old dogs CAN learn new “tricks” - though this isn’t so much a trick as it is a way to communicate their needs). I continued with my next dog, and I have such an amazing relationship with him because he can advocate for himself, ask me for specific things that body language and barks alone wouldn’t be able to specify. I now buy larger sets directly from the FluentPet website, but I love that they still sell these affordable starter sets on Amazon - and it looks like they offer even more options on Amazon than they did back when I ordered this set. I was searching today to see what they currently offered on Amazon, and to my surprise, I saw some comments people have left who are giving up quickly and saying they’re going to return the set, and just some weird negative reviews. Since I never posted a review back when I purchased these, I figured it’s a good opportunity to tell you, as someone who is now fairly experienced in teaching my dog(s) how to use these buttons - it sometimes takes time! Don’t give up on your pet. Just because they aren’t pressing - it doesn’t mean they are too dumb, or that they don’t understand - they just haven’t decided yet whether interacting with the buttons is worth their time and attention. Honestly, it takes, what, 2 extra seconds out of your day to keep modeling the word - they get it; they understand what you’re doing - and eventually, they WILL press the button. And at that moment, when they finally press their first button, you will see the potential for what you and your pet can do with this new world of communication they now have at their fingertips (err… pawtips)! I can’t say enough good things about FluentPet, I’m a huge supporter of this brand and the talking-pet movement, mainly because of the higher quality of life it offers our furry family members. Anyway, these buttons are good quality, the brand is reliable, customer service is super helpful, basically, I’m a super fan here. If you can do one good thing for your pet today, BUY THESE BUTTONS. :) I included a photo of the very first button for “outside” that I gave my 15 year old beagle two years ago. I am never going back - my current pet and all of my future pets will have buttons. Just remember, be patient!
