Q: Is the material waterproof? Or at least does it have a good resistance to rain?

It's quite padded but no it's not. My daughters school books got wet.

Q: can you put a flask of tea on the side?

I use it as a changing bag for my little ones. I haven’t tried a tea flask (chance would be a fine thing!) Their water bottles fit in just fine though :-)

Q: How comfortable are the straps? Would they be comfortable on bare skin, for example when wearing a strappy top in summer?

My wife finds it very comfortable and it seems like a good bag.
