Foil ribbon, floating about, seems to be working well.
This is a roll of holographic type patterned foil ribbon . It doesnāt stick, and needs to flow in the wind, to make a noise ( not too noisy ) and reflect, to scare off birds. We are currently plagued with Magpies and Jackdaws which have raised their young on my chicken food and eggs ( foiled that at last) and other smaller birds (still very cross about the lady blackbird and her chicks they killed)Weāve had 10-15 previously, but this year there are over 30 jackdaws and a large family of magpies, and they are so noisy.Weāve stuck lots of lengths of this foil ribbon, onto trees, above our window, along the chicken wire fence to put off the jackdaws from landing, and they seem to be moving further up the hill, away from our house and others, to trees further away. The chickens werenāt at all perturbed by the foil flapping about, as itās mostly outside of their enclosure.Well need to be wary of some longer lengths, as they are eye height at the moment, so I may need to trim, but tied to some branches, they seem to be working well.We have 10 lengths up, dotted about, and I might put some more up.It didnāt bother a robin yesterday, and the other smaller birds, have not been here lately, due to the jackdaws and magpies presence

Victory for the Sparrows!
I recently purchased this tape in the hope of fortifying my stalwart garden fence which can best be described as the Maginot Line that so valiantly protected the French from the German invasion during WW2. My plight commenced when a squadron of sparrows amassed ominously along the edge of my fence and began dive bombing my patio and garden furniture with the ferocity of Ju 87 Stuka dive bombers. The incursions were daily and the damage was nothing short of devastating. After several days of sustained carpet bombing I decided to take preventative measures by installing a line of anti-bird spikes along the top of my fence to push the sparrows back into their own territory. This tactic was unsuccessful as the sparrows feet were narrow enough to fit between the spikes with ease and their undercarraige was high enough not to be scratched either. The sparrows landed among the spikes effortlessly and glared mockingly at me.In war one must seek more innovative solutions to reign triumphant, as such I learned of a revolutionary solution to deter the sparrow invaders once and for all and purchased this bird 'repellent scare' tape. Installation of several strips of the devices were swift and the manufacturers recommendations adhered to fully to effectively defeat these short winged foes! The strips of tape shimmered beautifully in the summer sunlight and the flickering noise was a symphony to my ears, although it must have been deafening to the relentless demonic sparrows. But was my victory assured?I sat and watched from the observation post as the first sparrow soared past and dropped a bomb from high altitude on my garden table. At least it kept its distance from the fence. Somewhat gleeful I continued my reconnaissance for a further 5 minutes. Then it happened. The first sparrow landed on the fence. It looked at the repellent tape flapping furiously in the wind and was completely undeterred. Imagine my dismay. Soon the sparrow ace was joined by his comrades as the rest of squadron perched upon the fence, again they stared mockingly at me while the repellent tape flapped mere inches from their razor sharp beaks. From then on the sparrows have maintained air superiority over my garden launching sorties unchallenged. They are disciplined, organised and fearless with an indomitable will. I shall try to hold out as long as I can but I anticipate the sparrows will achieve total victory by autumn. They cannot be defeated!

Took 2 years but It finally works
Based on NJW's review July 2018...I purchased this in August 2018. Didn't get it to work but thought of it when I saw a Ā£3 pot holder at Wilko (Aug 2020) that clearly wasn't strong enough to hold plant pots but could possibly be useful for the repellent foil. I had used an owl kite which was effective but after 2 years it was worn and tatty. Also untangling the kite became irritating. As I was having the house painted, I revisited this solution. As NJW stated:-1) This is not āout of the box solutionā. You actually have to think through how you will use it to make it work.Me: Eureka moment when I saw the plant pot holder at Wilko.2) The ātapeā is not sticky its a foil.Me: Applied transparent tape on the repellent foil. Used a hole punch to create a hole then attach it to the plantpot holder using leftover curtain rings. (see photo). The pot holder has a hook which made attaching to roofcorner easy [done by painter who has a tall ladder}.3) It works but gets tangled easyMe: Doesn't tangle due to the tape attached but 3 have fallen off as clearly didn't attached properly. Still workswith but less noise so partner happy. Claimed the noise from 4 was scaring him.4) Common mistake people make is to wrap things in it or leave it almost like a barrier - that's not how it works!ME: CORRECT!5) Works only when moved by the wind. So if you leave in wind clear area ME: CORRECT!6) As you see on a pic mine is on a stick. It is scaring pigeons from my solar panels and roof. We live in windy seasidetown so it works perfect...downside is - it gets tangled and stops moving.Me: Works perfect but doesn't tangle due to the tape (see 2 above).7) Tape movement and sparkly reflection scares and disorientates birds - so they go away. Simple. ME: CORRECT!8) Doesn't work on big birds like seagulls. ME: DON'T LIVE BY THE SEASIDESummary: if you put it out and it doesn't move, rattle in a wind - you are doing it wrong :) ME: CORRECT!Price is good and you get a lot of foil for it so if it breaks - reapply!ME: APPLYING TAPE ON THE BACK OF FOIL HELPS.Good luck :) ME: DITTO
