Really nice dinnerware set!
This is a really nice 16-piece dinnerware set, with a serving of 4. I typically like a more traditional coloring, but the two-toned feature of this set is quite nice. You get 4-each of the dinner plates, salad plates, cereal bowls, & mugs. The bowls & cups are a cross between the white & cream, speckled with blue throughout. The dinner plates are entirely white, with the blue speckles. The white part feels smooth & glazed, while the cream parts feels untreated & textured. Each piece feels sturdy in the hands, but not heavy. This set is not porcelain, but stoneware, so it should feel heavier, but it's surprisingly not. I feel that this is a quality made product that will last. The design is pleasant & I had no issue upon first cleaning the set, by running it through the dishwasher.

Two contrasting opinions here
What you are seeing here are close up photos of a mug and a bowl, and I will explain the why of it below. It's a nice attractive set, it really is. You get mugs, bowls and plates and we went ahead and got rid of the ones we had to replace them with these. They feel so sturdy and well constructed so we don't feel like we are going to break them. We do break a lot of plates. We are clumsy people.Anyway, I don't like them at all. I really don't want to have to use these. This is because of that dull watery brown textured bit at the base. It's a weird, icky grainy texture and it gives me shivers and makes me cringe every time I touch it.The contrasting opinion? My daughter loves these and demanded I not shred these in a review. Firstly because she feels like that grainy textured part will help grip them while we are washing them, and that will save them from being dropped. And secondly because, as she correctly points out, I'm a big sissy. So we have to put more value in her opinion.Despite my point of view, they really are very attractive.

Not as expected
Pfaltzgraff is a well know brand for dinnerware, but it seems like I received a set of seconds. The glazing on the set is not consistent. One of the bowls (bottom right) has glazing that looks quite different from the other 3 - the speckles are lighter and sparser. Two of the plates had speckles that were closer together and smaller and the other two had larger speckles that were more spread out.One of the cups had what looked like a 'chip' on the rim and it looks like the glaze was not properly applied. It looks like a chip, but I did not find any chips in the box, so it was either that the glaze was not properly applied, or the cup was chipped and was sent out anyway. I expect that there would be some variation to the glazing, but not to this extent. It seems like they were not properly quality controlled, or they are indeed seconds. The edges of the plates are not glazed, which I believe is a design choice, however, it's not a feature that I would like. The are rough to the touch. A couple of the plates have somewhat rough bases as well. If I had seen these in person in a store, I would not have purchased the set. It looks great in the product photos, but it's come out somewhat wanting.I expected more from the brand. If these are discounted seconds, it should be clearly stated on the product page. Even with the discount, they are not cheap, and one would still expect a higher quality product with a better finish.
