No return spring but with the suction it doesn't matter. Easy to install mine was under the battery (2001 chevy s-10 4.3 v6)

No return spring inside
Purchased to replace a vacume actuator that ripped. Missing the return spring inside.So it won't return when you shut 4wd off.
