I have never played any fighting games or had an interest in the Street Fighter franchise until this game. As a result, my first day of playing consisted of me spending hours simply trying to learn and execute the combos of 1 character out of 16(?). I enjoyed every second of it.While Street Fighter V does lack a fun Story Mode, there is enjoyable content here for the competitive gamer as they took no shortcuts with the gameplay. The fighting is crisp, it feels polished- as it should be. Online Ranked and Casual matches alongside game modes designed to help you work on your skills will probably give you your money's worth if you are looking for a challenge and interested in getting into the fighting scene.The Story Mode was abysmal. You play through a few very short 1-round fights for each of the characters against weak CPU opponents. The plot is told in the form of rushed, uninteresting hand-drawings with voice-over. Each character only has 2-4 fights before their story is over. The only reason I did the story missions was because they give you Fight Money (the in-game currency for buying skins, new characters etc).Challenge Mode offers you a chance to learn combos for the characters as well as basic to advanced game mechanics. It was perfect for someone like me. Each character has 10 trials, progressing from easier combos to more difficult ones. The trials reward you with a title that you can display on your online profile to show some level of proficiency with whomever you managed to complete 10/10 on.I spent ~2hours just trying to manage a Heavy Kick Crush Counter -> Standing Heavy Punch -> Denjin Renki -> Axe Kick -> Light Kick -> Tatsumaki Senpukyaku -> Denjin Hadouken. I was impressed with the level of detail required in order to make it work - a slight movement of half a step was required at some interval otherwise the kick later on would be out of range.There are so many interesting combos especially with the V-Trigger mechanic, powering up your characters abilities upon activation and allowing for some huge damage. Apart from all the Trials there are Demonstrations, beginning with easy and going up to advanced and expert. This sub-mode isn't focussing on specific characters but more on mastering game mechanics like spacing, blocking, counter throwing etc.Survival Mode involves you trying to survive through a number of rounds with difficulties from easy to hard. You can unlock extra colours for the characters by doing this.
