Woof! BEST (and goofiest) shoes I have ever bought
I've been searching for the Holy Grail of comfort all terrain walkers my whole life. I have several excellent shoes I regularly use which fit well (Fila, Clarks, Timberlands) and have continually tried others, but never found IT.I'm also an engineering cheapskate and never spend over $50 on a shoe. But I was tired of coming up short, read some reviews that said Altra Lone Peaks were the unanimously awesome, with unusual engineering. So I bit the bullet and found a red (!) pair of the Lone Peak 6 on "clearance" for $86 with the 7 Day Try & Buy.Woof. These are simply the most comfortable, pain free, uniquely designed (and goofy!) shoes I have ever worn. A few things:- the "total foot " wide design allows your foot to "spread" at the ball in a natural way that mimics what your foot actually does without shoes. It's a strange but exceedingly natural sensation, with oddly enhanced stability over rough terrain (small rocks, gravel, sand, etc. The term is "foot feel" and it's real and it works.- "Neutral heel" design is that your heel is not elevated, as in every other shoe, which feels odd at first, but which propels you onto the balls of your feet, where you should probably be anyway. Completely counterintuitive to the "high heeled" running shoes of today, but once you try this, there's no going back. Natural and comfortable, in sync with how your foot is actually designed.- I am sensitive to heavy shoes, and these are perhaps the lightest trail runner you will find. Incredibly well cushioned for their weight.- Super high quality materials throughout- the shape and width and color are goofy as all get out, but I've come to see that as a feature, not a bug 😉- I've tried these on numerous terrains this summer, rocky, sandy, gravelly, hard pack and paved surfaces, all with exceptional performance. The only thing I'll say is these are not at their best on hard pavement or concrete - not that they don't work, but their minimalist nature means they probably won't live long there. Altra has other styles which may work better for that.Net net: if you can stand the goofiness, these are like magic, I've found the Holy Grail.Highest recommendation.

315Km. On the Camino de Santiago and still kicking!
I purchased these about a month ago for the Camino de Santiago. They are super light and seem to break-in quick enough. I wear sandals often so the zero-drop thing did not seem like a problem. In hindsight though I would have gone with the next model up that offers the extra padding. There are a variety of surfaces on the Camino and had it been primarily dirt it probably would not have been an issue but I had issues with discomfort on the bottom of my feet often enough. These are trail runners and had that been my primary use with them I know they would have been perfect aside from some issues with slippage on wet terrain. After probably now 400+Km. they have stayed intact and are quick to dry and easy to clean. They fit great and are true to size. I however went with a 1/2 size up because I was not able to get my true size. I really had no issues with blisters other than a toe that was compromised going into the Camino. Just keep your feet dry and immediately put some Moleskin on an affected area once you feel a hot spot brewing! Other people on the Camino were very happy with their Komas as well as they have Vibram soles and offer a really nice soft cushioned support. Regarding comfort on the top part of the foot you don’t need to run the laces through all the lace holes. Additionally if they feel a little tight there is a hole slightly offset that offers a wider gate that made all the difference for me. Buen Camino!

My go anywhere shoes
This is a great pair of shoes if you're looking for zero-drop wide toebox but not 'barefoot' shoe. For me was a spot on because I like to have a bit of cushion. They're super comfortable, lacing hugs the midfoot like a glove so there is not slippage or blisters whatsoever.Great for walking and casual hiking. Can't tell about running cause I don't do long trail runs but I don't see any reason why they won't work there. The only thing they don't like is sharp rocks. The sole's rubber is on the soft side and you're going to feel too much.

Mostly good, some bad.
These shoes almost fit my feet (I got a size 9.5 wide, my feet are something like an 8.5 EEEE), which is nice, they are a bit tight over the top but not unwearable. They work with my orthotic insoles. The grip on the sole is awesome, works really well on rocks, dirt, trees, etcHowever, it suffers a lot in wet conditions. If you live in the desert these will keep you stable at a lot of angles very consistently, but I absolutely would not want to try to climb a tree in the rain in these and I'd be a bit careful on wet tile or metal even when flat, definitely watch out for rocks while on the trail.I've now had these shoes for a few months and the outsole is still in pretty good shape, with an average of 4-5 miles walked a day. I took em to the galapagos and I've taken them to wisconsin swamps and they worked decently well in both. On the other hand, parts of the inner materials are already fraying and falling apart. The quality of the various parts is very inconsistent.Speaking of wet conditions, these are not designed as water shoes but if you step into the sea with them they drain reasonably well and if you keep walking they dry out ok eventually, although it can take hours if you take them off and leave them to sit. In combination with fits wool socks I was pretty happy in terms of hiking in comfort even after getting my feet soaked. There is not a ton of cushion in these and I would like a version with more, but the altra versions with more do not come in the same size options.
