Q: I'm a guy with short hair. Would this help me to evenly distribute my pomade/gel I use in my hair?

It is designed to create a color effect on the hair such as baliage, darkroot etc. not to distribute product as it would not be uniform.

Q: How do you remove red rod for cleaning

Pull out red cover, then the red rod can be out.

Q: How do you take the top off the roller? Seems it’s in there pretty tight and I can’t get a grip on it.

The red roller has a lid. I had to use my fingernail all the way around it and it finally came off. Thank goodness, because the inside of the roller was full of gunk. Once you remove the top once, it's easier to remove afterwards.

Q: Is this good to use, for spreading color around evenly, if you color your hair only 1 color?

Yes, my hairdresser uses it when she does my color. However, I use at home in the shower to comb through conditioner.
