Getting Started with MATLAB: A Quick Introduction for Scientists and Engineers

Invaluable Resource for MATLAB Beginners
Page-for-page, this text has been more valuable to me than any other MATLAB resource I’ve owned. As a student, this book has provided me with tools that have been invaluable for my classes: report writing, 3D visualization, handle graphics, mathematical modeling, and more. Every script I have written has benefited tremendously from the lessons and examples provided in Pratap’s work. I recommend this text as a supplemental resource to all new students of MATLAB.

Great primer on MATLAB
I had an OLD version of this book. Great update. Includes concise understandable text describing MATLAB syntax and programming. Relatively short no-nonsense text to quickly get you started working.

A Start
This book is perhaps a good place to start to learn MATLAB. The author introduces topics but does not give clear and simple examples to demonstrate the commands.I found a major error in one explanation of how to solve linear equations by matrices. Luckily I had seen the maneuver the author was trying to demonstrate and picked up on the error. Someone who did not have any knowledge of MATLAB would have been baffled as to why it did not work for them.I use the book to see what sort of commands are in MATLAB, then read the section on it. Most of the time it is not explained adequately and I go to Youtube to find someone who can explain it clearly.I am annotating the book by pasting in examples from MATLAB that are clear.

actually 3 hole punched loose leaf
This version which is marked hardcover is actually 3 hole punched loose leaf. The image shows the holes. It fits in a standard US 3 ring binder and as such lies flat. The paper is thinner and of poorer quality than the paperbacks.

Very good simple explanations and instructions tutorial style. It does teach coding in a constructive efficient way.

Great book for Matlab beginners
I strongly think that this is best book for matlab beginners. Why do I think so?1. If you do not have much time and want to get started with matlab, this is *the book* you need. This is slim yet powerful enough to get you started. I was a beginner of matlab and got inundated by thick and detailed matlab books. These are good books for advanced users; in fact not very useful to them as well, since an advanced user would rather read matlab documentation.2. The author's unique style of organizing book, which is adopted by other authors of matlab book: Author first introduces some concepts and then revisits them to deal in depth. This is exactly what you need as beginner - reviews and revisits!3. From my personal example, if a beginner starts reading advanced books, then he or she gets flooded with information, which ultimately is forgotten.4. The author does give some pics, which I find very innovative and haven't seen tech book with such amusing pics!!So, this is my the favorite book for matlab starters.P.S. Occasionally, the book says to refer Matlab manual. You cannot replace a software help by a book. In most of the tech software, manual is created to give each and every details of the functionality. If we include all such details in an intro book, it will no longer remain an intro book. Aim of an intro book is to get you started and once you march towards advancements, the book should direct you to references of advance topics. And this book precisely does the same.PPS: I didn't buy the book on Amazon, but got it from elsewhere.
