Q: I want to use this switch for heater only of my heater/light/vent unit. The heater is 1300 watts and the unit requires a 20 Amp circuit. Is this ok ?

A Closer Look- The heater in question draws 1300 watts at 120v you say. A 1300w resistive heater will draw 10.8 amps at 120 volts (Watts= Volts x Amps for resistive loads). This time switch is Rated "15A/1875W Resistive" right? Your heater at 10.8A/1300W, is clearly within the ratings of this timer, SO YES IT WILL WORK JUST FINE. The "20 amp circuit" is a spec for the capacity of the circuit and not what the heater actually will draw. The NEC (National Electrical Code) allows a 'Continuous Load' of 80% of the circuit rating, so a 1300 watt heater load can be placed on an 15 amp circuit (15a x 80% = 12a max continuous allowable). I am a currently Licensed Master Electrician and Electrical Contractor.

Q: so I have 3 wires, ground hot and neutral connected to the light switch. what do I do with the 4th one?

The red wire goes to the load. When the circuit is turned off, electricity comes into the switch on the black (hot) wire but does not go anywhere. When the circuit is turned on, the electricity comes into the switch on the black (hot) wire and goes out on the red wire to the load (a light or fan or ??). The electricity then goes through the load, and returns to the power company on the white (neutral) wire. The flow of the electricity changes direction 60 times per second - hence 60 cycles per second (hertz) alternating current (AC).

Q: Does the selected led flashes/blinks contuneously to the end of the count down?

The led blinks on the selected button until the next lower count is reached then it blinks. Example 15 min blinks until 5 min is reached then 5 min blinks until done.
