Premium Longsword under $500
The media could not be loaded. The Cold Steel German Longsword that I received is top notched in quality, appearance, and handling! The pommel is unique in terms of balance between form and function, because it can greatly assist with thrusts in accordance to Meyer and Fiore Longsword Manuals. The leather grip wrapping is superior to Cold Steel's Hand and Half & Italian Longsword because of the ridges that provide extra support when manuveuring it. The guard took a little time for me to adjust, but I was able to become comfortable practicing forms and drills with it. The side ring is firmly mounted to the guard, and it provides decent protection for the lead right hand. Furthermore, it reminds me of the MAA Grossemesser that I own because of the side ring. The scabbard is the best one that I have own or come across during my swordsmanship journey. Additionally, I appreciate that it comes with two belt attachments to give myself a variety of options in terms of carrying it. The fit is excellent when it comes to sheathing and drawing out the Longsword. Most of the sword has been rust resistant so far, but there is some of it where the base of the blade and the guard meet. Therefore, I took the liberty to apply Renaissance Wax to the blade to prevent further rusting. The tip must be extensively cared for, or it will become bent or curled. I plan to use my work sharp to adjust it. Overall, it is an excellent value for the money when it comes to mid range swords.

Broken rat tail tang?
The sword arrived with the pommel broken off. The shipping box is not damaged which means this came like this from the factory. The tang looks like a welded on threaded rod. This is referred to as a rat tail tang. This is not something I would expect to see on a cold steel sword or any functional sword. This is typically used on wall hangers. The pommel snapped off right where the weld is. This is exactly why rat tails are not safe on functional swords. A rat tail on a $300 color steel sword. Wow. I am very disappointed.

Good sword as long as you don't pay more than $400!
The sword is well built, sturdy and very attractive, but I think too mush emphasis was put into cosmetics instead of function. The guard is fine and functional as long as you're right-handed. If you're left-handed, and use the guard ring as it's meant, then the down-turned guard will dig into your wrist. The blade is neither dedicated for thrusting nor cutting, but manages to to do neither well. The sword is well balanced with a comfortable grip and the fit is quite good where all parts are joined. The scabbard is really well made and fits snugly around the sword but it not so tight as to slow the draw. As a bonus, the scabbard has a pair of good looking hanging straps that can attach to a sword belt easily. All in all it's a decent fighting sword and cuts better than must production swords, which is unusual for such a "Flashy"sword. It wouldn't be my first choice for the price, but if you compare to most sub $400 longswords, this is about as good as one will find.

Good sword, shoddy shipping
Decent blade, feels solid in the hands. Maybe slightly heavier than I'd like, but still agile. Scabbard is a snug fit. the construction feels pretty solid, although the blade doesn't ring when struck, rather gives a bit of a clunk. The feel reminds me of a Windlass Falchion I own, a bit beefy but not overly heavy. I own swords around half the price that feel just as usable. The packaging wasn't very cushioned and I believe mine may have been damaged in shipping, the tip of the blade is slightly bent. Thankfully it doesn't catch on anything in the scabbard. I may just need to file away at the tip to get rid of the curl which isn't ideal.

you get what you pay for.
The sword tip was bent over and the handle covering seems cheap. Over all workmen ship is average.
