30mm / 1-3/16 inch Metal Steel Hole Saw Drill Bit, Metal Hole Cutter for Thick Metal,Stainless Steel,Iron and Wood (30mm / 1-3/16 inch)

Worked great for mounting auto gauges in aluminum plate.

Needed this to cut out one hole in heavy gauge sheet steel. Used cutting oil to keep the teeth cool, a bit of elbow grease and a steady hand, and in about a minute and a half I had the hole I needed.

I needed to cut a hole in a metal panel - again - but I was tired of how difficult it was using the tools and methods I had used in the past. When I first saw this tool, I thought it looked too aggressive for what I needed it for. Turns out those wicked looking little carbide teeth cut smooth as butter. I also anticipated needing to use my drill press, but it turns out my work piece wouldn't fit under it. So I reluctantly chucked the hole saw in my cordless drill and gently attacked my sheet metal box. I went nice and easy. There was no "grabbing" as the teeth cut in. With just gentle, even pressure they smoothly carved out a little ring, shaving by shaving, until the circle dropped out. It was super easy, all by hand. And the hole looks like it was punched out in a press. Not a skip, not a scratch, not a grab. Wow!

This type of tool doesn't work well for wood. The spaces in between the teeth get clogged with sawdust so you can only drill < 1/8" at a time then you have to pull the drill and use a brush and often a sharp object to remove the caked on sawdust. I had to do this 20 times to drill through a 3/4" board which made it a 10 minute job. The quality of the hole and cut was fine it was just absurdly time consuming. I have no idea if it would work better on metal. And to be clear, the is a problem with this type of tool not this brand or manufacturer.

This cuts beautifully but it is not the imperial measurement they give. It is metric. So if your tolerances are tight, skip this. Unfortunately I will be returning this one.

If you are looking at this - get it. It is still cheaper than similar "premium" hole saw bits and it will blow your mind how great it is. I punched my sink with a nail to seat the bit - probably should have drilled with a smallerbit first as the large center bit took a while to get through even the thin stainless of the sink deck - but once the actual hole saw got to the stainless - it made quick work of the metal and left no tear out. The only part that isnt perfectly clean can be seen in the photo on the right upper side of the hole - which was a result of me letting the drill slip through the hole too quickly. Even with reading the positive reviews saying its impressive ~ I did not expect such a quick result.

Granted, this was well under $10, but I wouldn’t waste your money on this. The channel for the center bit wasn’t drilled far enough down, so the bit couldn’t go far enough into it to lock it in with the set screw. So, basically you’re just buying a bit with a non functional hole saw, as the bit will spin but the hole saw won’t.I highly recommend spending a little more money and getting yourself a functional product.
