I'm immensely satisfied with this product! This is a well-designed, well-constructed feeder that functions beautifully. And birds love it! Having a METAL seed tray is absolutely vital to the design. The dome is thick, sturdy transparent plastic, amply wide to completely shelter the contents of the metal seed tray beneath from rain or snow. The metal seed tray has a consistently smooth enamel coating. It also has several small drainage holes in the bottom surface to provide ventilation, and to allow any water that might splash into the tray during high winds to readily drain out. This keeps the contents dry, protecting seed from forming mold. And most importantly, the hanging rod treats directly and solidly into the metal tray. The single-piece, hooked hanger that holds the dome over the tray is made of a substantial, well-threaded, attractive metal. It is long enough to allow for useful height adjustment between both pieces, and anchors the dome to the tray with no wobble or tilt whatsoever. The height-adjustment mechanism holding the dome in place is also sturdy, well-designed, functioning easily and working effectively. To date, this feeder -- hung in a recess within a big dense bush -- has weathered 2 solid weeks of rain and substantial wind without any of the seed heaped in the tray daily becoming the slightest bit damp or blowing out of the tray.This hanging domed tray feeder is a great contrast to one that I purchased 1 month earlier, at exactly the same price from Amazon -- that one had the same design and was the same size, but featured both a transparent plastic dome AND plastic tray, with a metal inset into which the hanging rod screwed. That version of this feeder had much cheaper construction, lousy design execution, and almost no latitude to adjust height between the dome and tray. (Height adjustability is a really important feature, for allowing larger LBJ's to access food, and for easy seed refilling.) The plastic tray feeder completely broke apart after just 4 weeks of use, but not before the metal connecting rod had unscrewed itself on 3 other occasions, causing the plastic tray and its seed to hit the ground.THIS version of the design--with its longer metal hanging rod that threads directly into a METAL seed tray--has already proven itself to exceptionally durable. This metal tray version should have no problem lasting for years. It's a great design, and THIS THE MODEL TO BUY!

I originally purchased this in April 2022 and it's now May 2025. Considering I bought this on a whim, it's now one of my favorite feeders. I am buying a new one as the old version's holes have rusted over so it doesn't drain well anymore. But it lasted a long time considering how much it has endured. It had sturdy materials to withstand so much.I feed a wide variety of birds and this feeder is big enough to host multiple sparrows and finches around it but also big enough for starlings, cowbirds, or woodpeckers to enjoy. It never kept out squirrels or chipmunks but I didn't expect it to.

Quality construction, sturdy, with a stainless steel hook. Easy to clean with the hose. The adjustable dome helps keep the food dry and can also be used to keep larger birds out as desired. A good value for the price.An open platform feeder like this is the most universal type of bird feeder. Bird attraction can easily be customized by varying the food presented. For example, I use a mix of sunflower hearts, white millet, nyjer, corn, peanuts, raisins, and suet nuggets.All kinds of birds are visiting - cardinals, chickadees, titmice, sparrows, doves, house finches, goldfinches, gray catbirds, downy woodpeckers, robins, bluebirds, wrens, warblers, etc. Add orange slices and/or grape jelly in a small cup in the tray, and orioles would likely visit.

I needed to replace my old platform feeder that fits into a cage to keep the squirrels out, and this one fits the bill perfectly. There is only one drawback: the protected platform feeder has attracted a flock of at least 80 siskins, who mob it, stand in it, poop in it, and generally make it difficult for the other birds I really want to feed to use it at all. As the winter progresses, we usually see sick siskins sitting on the driveway, probably suffering from Salmonella, so we decided to stop using platform feeders altogether. If I were going to use a platform feeder that needed to fit into my cylindrical cage, this would be an excellent choice. I am downrating it from 5 stars only because of what I have said about platform feeders in general.

Living in the north, this feeder gets pulled out for sleet, snow and rain days. I bought two. Easy to adjust height of the top to keep larger birds out. Easy to full, hang and clean. A fav of my cardinals.

Wonderful! Exactly what we needed. The big mean doves were chasing off the little birds and stealing all the food. He is definitely thwarted because he can't fit under the dome. It's adjustable so that the cardinals can get in but not the doves. It also keeps the seeds dry. Love it!!

This is a great bird feeder. It replaces an open dish feeder that filled with water when it rained. I like that the dome protects the food and the drain holes on the bottom tray keep it from getting soggy. It took the birds a couple of days to navigate the dome but they got the hang of it.
