Q: Is the seat height actually 2 in higher than a normal seat?

A regular seat is about 3/4 inch. This replaces the seat and is about 1 1/2. Not 2 inches higher than a normal seat.

Q: Are the hinges on this particular model ($ 65.00 one) plastic or stainless & if they're plastic, has anyone had an issue with the hinges breaking? Thx

I had a hinge break on my Big John twice. Big John replaced the hinges. I was told by one of Big Johns customer service people that they do not have a stainless steel replacement hinge that will fit this model.

Q: Is the opening larger than on a standard toilet seat?

The answer is no. The opening is not larger. The seat itself is much larger but on the outer portion of the seat as opposed to the inner portion.

This answer is rather late, but I have both. It is a little tricky. My bidet has hot & cold & the temperature handle will only go in the middle and fully into the hot. In my previous home the hot wasn't connected. No problem at all. In current home, the hot is connected. Therefore, you have to ensure the temperature handle is in the middle or you can burn your privates. The seat & bidet shift, no matter how much they are tightened. I find I have to check & adjust every time before I use it.
