We read some answers that mentioned it does not maintain the reading after removing the luggage, actully, as we mentioned above, if you hold your luggage still for about 3 seconds untill you see "H" appears, you will have about 1 minute to read even you remove the luggage.

Q: Does it have auto shut off if left on?

It turns off automatically when not in used after a few minutes. I purchased approximately 6 months ago and the batteries are still good.
