Temp control done right
I use nest for all of my thermo stats and the added functionality of this new version has been great. I use the nest app and google home app and the temperature control from anywhere makes it so easy

This one is different from the Gen 1's but still good.
Different from the first gen Nest thermostats.. this one relies on tapping and swiping where the old gen 1's actually had a face on them that you could turn. Old man problems I guess. I wish it did less as its job is to turn on heat/air when required. the setup goes on for days setting up all sorts of stuff that I don't want or need. To its credit it does its job and once I was able to dumb down the required inputs we made peace.

Nest better before Google
Poor ergonomic functionality and terrible baseplate design. The original Nest thermostat this replaced is much more user friendly. I’m not impressed with the revisions made since Nest was purchased by Google. What’s more, it won’t work in my Nest app. I can only use the Google Home app. That defeats the purpose I bought it for.

Works With Heat Pump
Some reviews noted that it doesn't work with a heat pump, but in my experience it works as expected. Only issue I had was with the B wire being detected consistently, and occasionally after reboot it doesn't detect it and needs to be restarted.

This Nest didn't work on my system.
I have an older HVAC system--both gas heat and electric AC. I wasn't able to connect it with this Nest, so I had to return it.

You can never override eco so your house is insanely hot
You can never override the eco setting on this device. It will think you’re away when you’re home, and change the temperature constantly to 74 which is not great in the middle of the summer. We are beyond frustrated with this device and do not understand why anyone would want this thermostat. We missed our return window so will be calling nest directly because it’s actually the thermostat from hell.

no long term "hold" temperature function
don't buy this thermostat for a vacation home as there is no long term "hold temperature" function.
