Denon DL-103R Moving Coil Cartridge

Q: I've gone back to my "classic" denon d-59l. will this carthridge match well with this turntable? thank you in advance,

My personal feelings about this cartridge is that it requires additional mass loading to tame high frequency energy. Some like a lot of high frequency energy. I do not. This is a medium compliant cartridge. But I added 5 grams to head shell and dialed that off with the counter balance. I track at 2 grams

Q: Does this cartridge need a pre-amp?

Yes, all cartridges need a phono-amp that generally connect to a pre-amp (often the phono-amp) is built into the pre-amp or integrated amp. I don't mean to confuse you, but cartridges put out just a little voltage and this needs to be boosted. I love the DL-103R. It is one of the finest values in audio; however, it needs a very powerful phono-amp. Most phono-amps are for higher output cartridges like moving magnets (not moving coils). This may not be the best choice for you.

Q: Will it work with a Thorens TD147?

I just ordered a custom made referb Thorens TD 160 and the company in Germany that custom makes the turntables, suggested that you may need to add weight to the tonearm of these Thorens esp if they come ditch Thorens tonearms vs SME 3009 tonearms. I hope that answers your questions. It all depends on the type of tonearm your Thorens comes with.

Q: My turntable is pioneer plx1000 , is this mc cartridge fit for my turntable ?

It would fit your turntable. Please note that the output of this cartridge is .2mV so, you will need either a phono stage (preamp) that will properly work with this low-output moving coil cartridge or a step-up-transformer to feed an adequate signal to your preamplifier / receiver.
