The pencils were packaged loose in a thin plastic bag and shipped in an oversized paper envelope. Luckily they arrived undamaged. Each pencil had one lead installed and no spares.The GraphGear 1000 is very comfortable and functions flawlessly. The retractable tip is especially useful for preventing damage when you toss it in your bag.

You won't be disappointed unless you don't like a loud click of a pencil... The clip that retracts the nib is a bit loud for some but doesn't bother me. Its comfortable and the design prevents the smallest from breaking. If you have the ability to splurge then give it a shot I don't think you will be disappointed. But if noises bother you buy just 1 and not the set because again it's loud. Very lightweight so I can use for long periods of time comfortably. Writes well and fits my hand perfectly.

I have purchased this set a few times for the following reasons: people steal them, I lose them, I gift them, and I like having a few sets to keep at home and to keep at work. I have an addiction to writing instruments so you’ll be surprised to see just about every kind there is in my collection. I have purchase the 50 bucks a piece mechanical pencils, all the way to cheap 99¢ pencils. Nothing beats the Pentel Graphgear 1000. I use them mostly for drawing and shading very fine detailed graphite drawings. The weight and balance of the instrument is perfect. I like a slightly heavier pencil so that I can use its weight rather than manual pressure to make marks. I can draw for hours upon hours at a time, and the pencils work beautifully. I bought the 0.2 mm from Pentel, but I wish it was a Graphgear 1000. Still, it is a wonderful instrument and works incredibly well. If you see a bad review, I can’t imagine why. Take it from a professional artist who has tried just about everything under the sun. These are the best money can buy.

These are excellent quality pencils with a great assortment of lead weights. They are comfortable fit for my grip. Good for extended periods of drawing or writing. They have a very balanced weight. By far my favorite mechanical pencil set

These pencils are some of the best pencils I’ve used, both for art and note taking. The lease you refill with will make a difference, so make sure you get something of higher quality, but overall I’m very happy with my purchase. Though the pencils do have some weight compared to other lead pencils, it feels nice and isn’t so heavy it hinders your hands. It’s also nice to be able to snap the lead back into the pencil with a simple click. The grips are nice and confortable. Only downside is there is no built in eraser or even a place to add one, so you would need your own.

Love these! Great value for the set. First order arrived with all pencils wrapped together in a bundle and all we’re scratched by the clips of the others. Returned for exchange and new units arrived satisfactorily packaged. Love the way these feel and write, weight and balance are good for long drawing and writing sessions. More comfortable than my Rotrings. As I switch out lead hardness grades frequently, the changeable indicator on the barrel is very useful. The durability of the plastic inner barrel is a little concerning with very fine plastic threads (others are brass or steel), but I won’t take it apart unless required. Will update if it is a problem. The pocket clip is good in that if used it will automatically retract the tip, but it’s a bit impractical for me to carry in a shirt pocket as the top sticks up too high because of the clip position. Not a big deal for me as I use mostly at my desk or carry in a cloth roll in my bag. Otherwise a great - my favorite - mechanical pencil set!UPDATE: Been using these daily for a while and still like them a lot! Work well and feel good in the hand with little to no fatigue from long use. Highly recommend and good value for the price! Bought a second set to have different hardness readily available.

I bought these a few years ago now. High quality and durable. Easy to use for writing. Easy to advance and add new led when needed. Comfortable to write with.Recommend

These pencils are extremely comfortable to use, with their low centre of gravity and knurled grips. I especially enjoy the tip retraction mechanism, used by opening the clip on the side of the pen. As a person who uses multiple grades of lead, the ability to change the displayed grade is especially useful for test taking and drawing. One thing I would mention to be wary of is the fact that the aluminium body can be damaged by scratching if handled improperly. However, this is compensated by the modernity of the pencils’ core design. All in all, these pencils are the best in my small stationery collection, and are my strongest recommendation to anyone who requires a mid-range price drafting pencil.
