A must read
Recommended by multiple friends and for good reason. Provides all of the data and scientific research behind conventional pregnancy recommendations to those asking “why” (as in: “WHY can’t I eat sushi? What’s the risk? What are doctors concerned about when it comes to [insert recommendation here]?”). Great read, highly recommend for anyone newly pregnant or trying!

Wonderfully written, very informative!
Every expecting parent should read this! Emily Oster uses excellent data analysis to answer common pregnancy questions. She makes understanding the science really easy and gives great summaries at the end of each chapter. This is a very user-friendly book with tons of great guidance for pregnancy!

Best pregnancy book I've read
I used this in my pregnancy and give it to every pregnant woman i know. The data is very clear and concise, the end of chapter recap is super helpful, and everything is just excellently written.I am a coffee fiend, so seeing hard, real numbers from multiple studies that caffeine isn't bad for baby unless you're drinking like 8 cups a day was such a relief.I love this book and cannot recommend it enough.

Statistics can be manipulated...
While the premise of the book is good, and it does provide some helpful factual information, her statistical information that she relies so heavily on has been manipulated to fulfill her desires. She's an economist, not a doctor. It's nice to have a different perspective, but her perspective is just as skewed as the old school physicians, just in the opposite direction.
