I recommend this product for raspberry pi 3
Great product, even though I got frustrated at one point. Like an idiot I thought I could just figure it out. It's as easy as changing the lines of the config file in the boot directory. This worked with the raspberry pi 3. Touch screen is not as accurate as I would like, but the screen is extremely vivid and crisp. I had extreme ghosting until I turned up the amperage limit on the usb.As I wanted, this is open frame and capacitive touch. The hdmi cable is crazy short, but I imagine most people will attach it on or close to their pi. This draws a lot of current, so make sure your power supply is up to the task.

Great little touchscreen.
worked really well with various windows 10 mini-PC's. Have not tried it on raspberry Pi yet, but i am sure it will work with the config changes in the docs. Nice clear display. Touch works well. Only issue is that if you try and hook it up on a laptop with another screen, the waveshare 7" touchscreen works, but will not click the mouse. It will only move the pointer, etc. It apparently needs to be the only monitor for full touchscreen functionality. This is documented on the waveshare website and waveshare forum. Not an issue for me. But it might be for others.

Probably bad hardware. If it doesn't work right away you're in for an adventure.
I just bought the 7 inch HDMI LCD (C) from Amazon US. I got a new Raspbian OS image (2017-07-05-raspbian-jessie), burned it to a card and edited /boot/config.txt by appending the following:max_usb_current=1hdmi_group=2hdmi_mode=87hdmi_cvt 1024 600 60 6 0 0 0hdmi_drive=1I booted my raspberry Pi 3 and got nothing but a white screen. No image, no touch response. Expecting to gain more information I looked at the screen's EDID.$ tvservice -d edid.dat$ edidparser edid.dat > edid.txt$ cat edid.txtThere I found a great deal of X11 confusion: undefined values, etc. It appears that either the EDID is inaccurate or is in a format that current X11 version doesn't recognize. So, I added to /boot/config.txt:hdmi_ignore_edid=0xa5000080On next boot the screen worked perfectly--beautiful display, working touch, even fairly quick boot.On boot number 2 the screen worked poorly. Image was very washed out--readable but not practically usable. On boot number 3 the screen was so washed out and saturated with light that the image from the raspbian desktop was only barely visible.I added the following line to /boot/config.txt but it had no apparent effect.config_hdmi_boost=4I believe the display hardware is faulty and I will return it to get different product unless there is a software solution. I am also sending this post as an email to [email protected] but they seem to have a reputation for responding slowly or not at all.UPDATE: The hardware was bad. I returned it and got a new one which works very well. Sharp, fast display and the touch is quit accurate. I've changed my rating to 4 stars.I also can add that based on my personal experience, Waveshare's customer service is now very responsive. I got immediate answers to my queries (same day) and their suggestion to check the original display with a desktop was what confirmed that I had a hardware problem. Satisfied customer now.

Read the instructions on the web site
I plugged it in and it worked with no problems. I was impressed with the sharpness and clarity of the display. My use required it to be turned upside down. The web site explained how to configure the touch screen to match the screen rotation.

Touch doesn't work and the company won't respond to help requests
Following the instructions on Waveshare's wiki doesn't make this thing work. My experience is that, no matter whether you use stock Raspian Jessie and add the drivers or use Waveshare's image, you're not going to get the touchscreen to work. The display itself works but no touch. On top of that, while the screen is connected to the Pi, my official Raspberry Pi WiFi dongle won't work. I've tried the screen on a Raspberry Pi B, a Raspberry Pi 2 B, and a Raspberry Pi Zero.On top of that, I can't seem to get the company to respond to email requests for help. I plan to give the company another day or two to respond and if there's no response I'll return this and the case I bought for it.

Works great with raspberry pi 2
With all these negative reviews, I thought it would be hard to get going, but I'm no slouch when it comes to technical stuff so I gave it a try. It was really pretty easy. I got it to work with two different raspian images (hypriot and the standard Jessie) by just adding a few lines to the config.txt:max_usb_current=1hdmi_group=2hdmi_mode=87hdmi_cvt=1024 600 60 6 0 0 0The first line let's the pi send it more current over the USB ports, the other three set a manual resolution for the HDMI. These are standard pi configuration variables, and needed for most bare monitors.Wiki: [...]The version I received was v2.1, so the touch screen worked out of the box.

Works great with RPi 2
Contrary to the other reviewer here, I got this touchscreen display up and running with my RPi 2 in under 30 minutes. I started with standard Raspbian and installed the touchscreen driver. Documentation is very clear on the Waveshare Wiki [...]. It's like three terminal commands and suddenly it just works! Display looks great, happy I went with the higher resolution option.UPDATE: first display stopped working after less than 6 months, but waveshare "don't have the copy of warranty terms." So, I purchased a second one and am pursuing a warranty with my credit card.
