Barbie Signature Mattel 75th Anniversary Doll, Original 1959 Doll Reproduction in Black and White Swimsuit, with Wrist Tag, Gift for Collectors, Multi

With so many cheap and poorly made dolls by Mattel in the last few years, the 75th Mattel Anniversary Barbie doll proves the company CAN produce a quality collectible when it sets its mind to it. This doll is a Silkstone - a hard vinyl that looks and feels like porcelain - so this is NOT a play line doll. The quality and attention to detail is superb, and is a beautiful tribute to the #1 Barbie that came out in 1959. The price is a steal and I purchased three of these dolls; one I redressed as an flight attendant in a vintage inspired uniform. It may be a lot to ask, but I wish Mattel could have also made a brunette version. All in all, a beautiful doll at a fantastic price.

Mattel has issued several reproductions of the original 1959 Barbie, this is arguably the best. The body sculpt and face paint are exceptional. The hair color is neither too brassy nor too dull with tight curly bangs. I expected to find her swimsuit adhered with double-stick tape and was pleasantly surprised it isn't. Her sunglasses are hinged and she even has holes in her feet to hold onto her stand. She isn't made of vinyl but out of Mattel's "silkstone" resin which gives her more heft and a beautiful porcelain like (but not as fragile) finish. Her hairline is not authentic (it's straight from her temples to her ears, the original was curved), Mattel previously issued dolls with the authentic hairline, I don't know why this doll doesn't have it. My other quibble is with the packaging; instead of reproducing the original box or adapting graphics from Barbie's early days she is packaged in a rather generic box with a black & white photo with "Barbie pink" lettering and insert (I thought "Barbie pink" wasn't even a "thing" until the 80s). Overall she is a lovely doll and a "must have" for any serious Barbie collector. I hope Mattel produces more reproductions in silkstone.

Instant love! My pictures do no justice for how close to the original! I love the heavier Silkstone for this #1 reproduction since the original #1 did have more weight to her & gives her a better coloring than other modern vinyls used in past reproductions of her! This is as close to an original I'll ever get because I can't see Mattel improving if ever releasing another or afford the original.She will remain in her open box displayed until I can save for another...or 2, 3, or however many I can buy while still at this incredible price! Then I can't wait to unbox some, re-dress in original vintage outfits to display beside my other original vintage Barbies!

Just love Barbie. She is so close to the original one my mother gave me many many years ago.

This is the first Silkstone Barbie I have purchased. I am pleasantly surprised with the quality of this doll. The Silkstone material is heavier than a regular Barbie doll, and smooth. Similar to porcelain. The doll has removable shoes, clothing and earrings. A stand is included. I would recommend adding this doll to a Barbie collection, and I would recommend other Silkstone dolls as well.

Very pleased! The product came looking just like the picture! The doll is gorgeous! Perfect for any Barbie collector, it was a very good price too! Worth every penny. The silk stone body is also a nice touch. You won’t be disappointed!

She is so gorgeous but she does have a few problems with her paint and qaulity, however she is only 50 so I still think it's worth it. She feels magical to hold and I like her a lot.

I received the order within two days, and it was packaged in a original Barbie outer box, as well as the inner box as seen in the ad. The doll was in absolutely perfect condition. I could not ask for more as a purchaser.
