It works!
I bought this blanket to make some outdoor pads for feral cats. I just used 2 pieces of fleece with a single layer of the foil in the middle. To test it, I placed 2 fleece pads on a table, one with the foil in the middle, and one without. I placed a hand on each piece for about 10 seconds, and then quickly ran a hand across each fleece. The pad with the foil was definitely, demonstrably warmer. While the warmth only lasted a few seconds, the foil is not meant to store the heat, just reflect it. I also tried wrapping each pad around my hands, and the foil one kept me toasty. I’m sure it will help to keep a cold kitty warm during cold winter nights.Since my use was for cats, I was pleased that there is barely any “crinkle” when the pad is manipulated or moved. It’s certainly not enough to disturb or scare anyone. I also tried to tear the foil, and was pleasantly surprised. It pulled, and stretched, much like very strong plastic wrap. It also nicely resisted me trying to poke a finger through it. It appears to be very durable, and I expect it to last a long time.I believe this product would be a great addition to any “safety kit” one might keep in a car, or take along when hiking or camping. Being so much stronger than the cheaper foils, it is definitely worth the added price. Buy this, and Stay Warm!

Not as I was expecting but looks like it'll work as in quite not crinkly sounding for insert in cot mat pads.
Not quite as expected. Thought one side was going to be kind of fabric like. ANyway must be another brand. I was looking at numerous ones. This is not fabric on the orange side. It's a different color mylar is all. Meantime keepers because they do seem to be pretty quite which was what I wanted. No rattle sounds or crinkle noise. I intend to cut them to slip inside a cot pad to help block cold sink effect and help send your natural heat back to you both. Not sure the latter will work but being water proof the blocking wind and cold sink from robbing you of warmth overnight. I quit using cots and air mattresses over 45 years ago due to that problem. But at 65 now I want a cot and not just for the reason's most of us would..those too...but after not one but 3 hobo spiders joined my tent experience last summer getting a wee bit cozy....and two others right at the door entrance..well...I decided it was time to upgrade. I sew a lot of my outdoor stuff...and making cot mats to make them a bit more comfortable but even though the cot canvas is pretty air tight and I'm making one side of the mat's out of coated nylon pack cloth....yeah...decided to try out slipping in a cut to fit Emergency blanket with orange side down and metal up sandwiched between the foam insert and poly batting comfort zone..and then top layer is strong a bit heavier than usual all cotton sheeting. Zippers on side to be able to launder covers when needed. If it doesn't seem to work on bottom side of mat then I can put it right under the sheet side facing towards the body and then orange side would face the foam padding material. Either way I am hyper sensitive to sounds. And did not want the crinkle or crunch sounds to plastics to disturb me or other camping guests.

SAVE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS ON CAT AND DOG BEDDING.
I use this to make cold weather bedding for my cats. the first layer is something thick and fluffy. It could be blanket, pillow or foam of somekind. then I put a layer of this on, cut to size. And then a sinlge layer of sheet or blanket also cut to size. I only need to wash the third layer. the other layers stay clean. TO make sure that these three layers don't move around and get taken off by the cat, I use office clips, not paper clips, but little office clips that are more like clamps on four edges. that keeps all the layers in place.SAVE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS, because I foster cats and have my own cats and to buy a heat reflective beds for all them and then wash it every week or two would cost hundreds of dollars more. This way I am only washing the top sheet. In addition, because it is plastic if you or the cat spill something on the bedding or it gets rained on. only the top sheet will be wet. This emergency blanket stops all water and everything from passing through. This is also good if you foster cats or have a new cat, because they will often pee or tinkle on their bedding. however, in that case you do have to clean off the emergency blanket layer or the stink will stay.Being plastic it is very easy to clean, sometimes you can just use a high pressure stream of water to clean it if you do it right after it gets wet.My cats even prefer this to heated cat beds! I think maybe they are trying to help me save money on electricity. But in this way, you can make the cat/dog bedding ANY SIZE and shape. You can buy old pillows and blankets from a thrift store. You can buy decorative sheet covers of your liking at WalMart or Hobby Lobby.

Classic, thin, packable -- and truly orange on one side and silver on the other.
I like very lightweight emergency blankets that can be used to retain body heat during cold temps or injury -- or to reduce body heat gain on a sunny day by reflecting the sun while not holding in body heat. For this I need blankets that are reflective on only one side, and they are surprisingly hard to find. I carefully and partially unfolded one of these to verify what's on each side, and they do not seem any thicker or heavier than the classic foil blanket. The orange side does not make them perceptibly heavier. These are not meant to be reusable which is fine by me because I don't need them very often and the addition pack weight wouldn't be worth it.

Re-usable and durable emergency blanket
Lightweight, packable and great emergency use or to supplement sleep system when your sleeping bag proves not to be as warm as the rating suggests. Remember whilst emergency blankets prevent you losing 90% of body heat, if you wrap it around someone already hypothermic they may need extra heat sources, even if you just put some handwarmers in their armpits! Useful in a First-aid kit too, as prevention against Shock. I like these ones as they are repackable and suited to multiple uses, where the cheap silver ones rip in a slight breeze. These aren't as noisy as cheap ones either. If your going to use in emergencies, its useful the outside is Orange for visibility. Hopefully your casualty won't get run over by the ambulance!

It's durable (within limits), even as a ground sheet!
Yes it's more expensive than the disposable thermal blankets. - But those are a danger - one small tear and they're garbage. This blanket is 10x more durable (you can still tear it with abuse, it just doesn't disintegrate itself)., while still being lightweight and compact.Used as a groundsheet/emergency blanket/ rain cover for ultralight camping - perfect :)

Lightweight
I have one of these already, I use it for lightweight ground sheet for camping and carrying it for emergency, if you carry some small amounts of gaffer tape on your walking poles you can fashion it into a form of bivvy bag or tape it around you under your waterproofs if awaiting rescue or delay on your walk. Great bit of kit and arrived quickly, lighter than a bothy bag for summer use.

Pricey, but great quality.
Pricey, but probably the best emergency blanket you can get. I carry one on my runs up on the fells. It's good to know I wouldn't freeze to death if I got injured in the middle of nowhere.
