They had a lot if fun setting off the rocket
My 5 year old nephew is really into rockets. My brother is reliving his child hood through him. They had a lot if fun setting off the rocket.

I highly recommend that this product be avoided
I highly recommend that this product be avoided. The packaging looks cool, it doesn't cost much and since it says 'Smithsonian' on the front it creates some trust. Do not be fooled.I purchased this for my boys 6 year old birthday party. He received some pretty cool things but this was one of his favorites. That is probably why he cried when it wouldn't work, he was very disappointed. The stickers would not stay on the rocket, the fins came all bent and the foam material is cheap and thin so they wouldn't bend back in shape. That's not even the worst part - the way you have to mix the vinegar and baking soda defies all logic and it just leaks out. the rocket didnt go more than 2 feet and we tried it many, many times. It was a huge mess, the rocket didn't function and my child was in tears. I've done many science experiments with my kids (many using vinegar and baking soda) and this is a complete flop.NSI should be ashamed of themselves.

My godson had a great time with his dad making it and setting it off. The only negative commenwad the intense smell and spray of vinegar as a result. Great fun though

Avoid Smithsonian Brand
The stickers don't stick at all. We figured if it worked well we'd paint it, but it doesn't work well. It asks for about 1 1/2 tablespoons of baking soda but the tube is not secure on the base and has holes so the soda just spills out. When you get it together the highest we got it to go was about 4 feet. That was with us eventually sealing some of the holes to keep in the baking soda. It is messy and disappointing. We have used baking soda before and water rockets, so we know it isn't always perfect every launch, but this was by far the most disappointing. For a baking soda rocket I'd recommend the Scientific Explorers Meteor kit also sold by Amazon. It requires more work to put it together, but goes at least 40 feet and after you get the timing all set you can get them shooting well. This Smithsonian brand is yet another disappointment in their line.

A Messy Disappointment
This was a gift for an 8 year old grandson. We were never able to get it to go higher than about ten feet. That was very disappointing to both of us. He did get some laughs admittedly at seeing his "PopPop" getting sprayed with a vinegar solution during a half dozen or more launches. It looks like the launch process is problematic. I remember similar rockets from my childhood where the release mechanism was a lever, pulled by a long string. Those worked great. This current incarnation, with basically a handheld/friction release, is very messy and it leaves the user very close to the rocket at launch.
