On a 2006 CR-V; it will save radio tuning presets. But you still need to figure out radio code.
I bought this specifically because I knew my daughter's 2006 Honda CR-V would need a new battery soon. With that in mind, I was hoping to save the radio tuning presets, as well as keep 12V power on the vehicle to avoid having to obtain the 5-digit code needed on the radio to get the radio working again after replacing the battery. The item worked as advertised; the red light stayed illuminated, the radio station tuning presets stayed intact. However, the radio still required the 5-digit code to be keyed in on the preset buttons before the radio would operate. This is a security measure in the event the radio is stolen, so that it can't be used after power is lost. Since we bought the vehicle used, my concern was that obtaining the 5-digit code from the dealership was going to be a hassle. No so much: Went through the button-holding and key-on hand-dance, got the 8-digit code out of the radio, told it to the guy at the dealership on the phone while he was talking me through the process, and he gave me the 5-digit code. Some security. This feature may be unique to Hondas/Acuras.I'm still glad I got the item, but I would have used it differently. With this experience in the rear view mirror, I would not have hooked up the alligator clips to a spare battery and the ODB-II connector to my daughter's car. I would have hooked up the ODB-II connector to the other car in the garage. Then hooked the negative alligator clip to a good ground on my daughter's car. Then hooked the positive aligator clip to the positive battery cable of her car, wrapped in plastic to avoid shorting out, then removed the positive battery cable from her battery, and replaced the battery.I do like that the wiring cable is juuust long enough to reach from one car to another.

Worked as expected
Worked on my 2019 Subaru Outback. This think is definitely worth the money to avoid having to reset all the things in the vehicle memory. Especially the OB2 readiness. Plus you don't get the alarm scaring the crap out of you when you reconnect the battery. I used a lawn mower battery for the source. The ones powered by a 9v battery were tempting but I was worried that 9v wouldn't be enough juice.

DANGEROUS - no built-in protection whatsoever - DO NOT USE
Started melting as soon as I plugged it in.Assuming you're using this because your car battery is low/dead - as soon as you plug it in it's going to try to charge your car battery with as much current as it can pull. There's no fuse or diodes, nothing protecting it from overheating and melting. They can't even be bothered to shrink the heat-shrink on the clamps.

WORKS LIKE IT SHOULD
First I bought the VSTM brand. Right out of the package it would not pass an OHMS test. I gave it a 1 rating as I could not give it a 0. I Returned it and bought this JTRON brand. It passed the OHMS and VOLTAGE test on pins 4 and 16. This one works as intended. 5 STAR.
