A LOT of bang for buck!
WOW all I can say is that I am truly impressed with this DSL modem. It is easily twice as fast as the D-Link modem that it replaced. It looks different than pictured, infact it looks better than pictured. Do yourself a favor and take screenshots of all your settings from your old modem. You'll need things like your internet account name and password, ect. Once you have those it is pretty straight forward. I've been using AT&T internet (sadly) and have ALWAYS had issues with pages loading properly. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've had to reboot that D-Link modem (and this was the second D-Link used) at least 6 or 7 times each day. That's why I finally said that it's time to get a new modem, but it is hard to find a straight DSL modem WITHOUT a router or wireless bundled into the mix. I just needed the modem section. Finally I found this one, and boy am I glad that I bought it! Took a little while to get it running but that's not the modems fault (at&t couldn't find the correct DSL server settings). Once I was able to configure everything correctly, this little gem took off like a rocket and now my Internet works - incredibly fast - and smooth. I never heard of TP-Link before and thought that I was just wasting my time buying this, but like I said I didn't have many options as there aren't many stand alone modems on the market, so I bought this one. However I can gladly say that this modem is built well and has really impressed me with its incredible performance thus far. This modem is a real bargain for all that it delivers! I'll update if I have any issues with it, but so far it is working better than any other modem that I have tried, and I've tried pretty much all of them. I would give this ten stars if they were available.UPDATE: 12-19-11Our modem just stopped working. I can get it to connect to the internet but cannot access the control panel (192.168.1.1). There is probably a way to reset it (tried the reset button but it didn't work) but I simply do not have the time to call support. I might try another one, however I probably won't buy it from here as they have almost doubled the price recently.

Basic ADLS Modem that works well
As other reviews have indicated, this is only a modem. There is no router (firewall) installed. If you need this service, either purchase another product or purchase a separate router and connect the ADLS modem up to it.I have Frontier Communication (formally Verizon) as my ISP provider. I was using a Siemens SpeedStream 4100 as my DSL modem and a WRT54G as my router. The SpeedStreem 4100 was dropping the Internet intermittently primarily under higher traffic situations. In my case, before replacing the SpeedStream with the TD-8616, the power to the SpeedStream and the router had been off for several hours. Following the instructions, I connected the TD-8616 to the phone line and to my computer. I then powered up the TD-8616 and after a couple of minutes, I pulled up Firefox. I was surprised and impressed that the Internet came up. Then I thought, ummm, I'm not behind a firewall and this is dangerous. I connected the Ethernet cable from the TD-8616 to my router and power cycled everything. After a few minutes, the Internet came on again using the TD-8616 and my router. Life was good. After about 10 minutes, the Internet went down. Since I wasn't quite sure what was happening, I power cycled all of the equipment again and the Internet came back to life. After about 10 minutes, The Internet went down again. Oh no! I thought about this for a few minutes and suspected that my ISP had associated the IP address with my computer's MAC address. So, I connected my computer back up to the TD-8616 modem without power cycling anything, and got back on the Internet. I used the command prompt and typed "ipconfig /release" which tells the ISP's equipment to disassociate the computer from the IP address. I then connected the router back up to the TD-8616 and power cycled everything again. All worked and has been working for 24+ hours.I believe my problem also could have been solved by powering off the equipment for several hours and then powering it back on.This problem was not the fault of the TD-8616 or even my ISP provider. It was just a matter of understanding that my ISP is attempting to protect itself and my making sure that I follow the rules.I am likely to purchase another one of these. I like having a separate router that I can configure to setup web cameras and VPN and this allows me to do this.

This products works after you figure out how to configure your network to use it. The instructions that come with the product work fine if you are only connecting a computer to the device. Like most people I have a home network. This product did not just drop in as a replacement. My previous rented modem from my telephone company had more "smarts". The previous modem was able to configure itself to my already running network. This modem is very dumb. It only acts as a "bridge" to smarter devices like my router. I had to work with my ISP to get this configured correctly. Once I got it all worked out the product seems to work fine.Update: I just purchased a second TD-8616. There was nothing wrong with the first one and it has worked fine for over a year. I just wanted a backup modem in case the first one fails. I can't afford to have my internet down long. This new 8616 just plugged into my network without any changes. As far as I can tell this is a great modem.
