Vacation Under The Volcano Paperback – Illustrated, March 24, 1998

My almost-4 year old granddaughter loves the Magic Treehouse books. We were talking the other day and I told her I was dog-sitting a greyhound named Gladiator. She was so excited and told us all about gladiators, Pompeii, and Mount Vesuvius. Asking how she knew all that she excitedly told me she learned about it in a Magic Treehouse book. I was surprised the book talked about a volcano that killed so many people, but it was handled well. She loves these books and so do I!

This series of books, has been a top pick for reading with both my children. My now 11 year old read them a year or two back, and now my 8 year old is picking them up to read. Each book sets them on adventures and exploration to amazing places and events throughout history.

Great series. Easily read by 3 grader in family and enjoyed by the whole family.

Love this series it's a fun read with educational information as well. It's not a hard read at all. Fun for most all kids of different ages. My son's been following the series for a few years now and it's a fun read for him and sparks interest in a lot of different areas.

Awesome book I read it as a little boy and I still love it today! Wishing it was longer though!

For young kids, maybe 5-8 years old, I think this is a decent introduction to the destruction of Pompeii using a fantasy series to do so. There are many historical realities that are not covered in the book -- sexism and general slavery for example -- but they didn't shy away from the fact that gladiators were not free and that the destruction was very real and the people likely quite scared. I originally got this book to review for a job then my responsibilities for that job changed but I still read it and wanted to share my thoughts on it with you all.

The correct book book was delivered. 2nd grader will be reading in school.

All of the Magic Tree House books are GREAT for students who are at reading level 2nd-3rd grade. They are high interest, adventure stories. All of them revolve around 2 kids named Jack and Annie who go on some adventure, the students generally enjoy the books and retain what they read!
