very useful handy set of dried vegetables, decorative too
I bought this set of 16 dehydrated vegetables about 6 months ago. They are all pretty tasty and particularly useful for adding to stews soups and casseroles. These are great to have on hand when you want more variety in your meals or have run low on staples like celery, onions etc. I add the onions, peppers and tomato dices to salads as is, The dressing softens them up quite well. I add the dried mushrooms to almost everything. They are quite delicious and I'm going to have to buy another jug soon. We add the potato slices to scalloped potato mix and they make a major improvement. The dried peppers both the sweet and the jalapeno are really excellent. The Zucchini and broccoli don't really work as stand alone side dishes the broccoli is a bit strongly flavored to solo and the zucchini is a bit brown and the flesh gets very soft but both work well in soups etc. The corn, green beans and carrots can stand alone as a vegetable side dish. The cabbage is an outstanding surprisingly good addition to things though it can be strikingly sweet when not completely re-hydrated. Most of the vegetables take 10 to 15 minutes to cook so they are not instant. The celery and leeks will taste strong unless you add enough hot water to soften them and the diced potatoes need extra time to soften thoroughly I have not yet perfected a potato leek soup yet but its getting there. I have the jugs I use most often lined up on their sides on an open but shady shelf in my kitchen and they are very attractive and get a lot of positive comments from visitors. They are both useful and decorative. They might keep longer in a darker colder location but I'm sure we will have used most of them up well before they lose flavor. They have not absorbed moisture as freeze dried items might as well as costing less than freeze dried. These are a great addition to the food pantry, both the cooks in the family use them daily. They were bought in part to have on hand in case of emergency but have become an everyday staple.
