Excellent Document Reader
The design of this product is beautiful. It’s almost as light as my kindle but is 3x the size. It’s perfect for reading all my technical documents. It also just feels elegant and the back material is probably some type of brushed plastic but feels like it matches the price point. It’s a little expensive for what it does but it solves a very specific problem (eye strain for PDF documents that need to be 8.5”x11” size before they aren’t legible). The markup features work fine as well, but software syncing is still well behind a Surface or other full service tablet.

0 Point Build quality
If you have doubt about the build quality after you read other negative reviews, unfortunately they are all true...The back of the unit and the borders all made of plastic. I see gaps between the screen and the back panel in all directions on my unit. Cannot believe this is from Sony. All PDFs I have can be displayed on this unit without any issue. But PDF is the only supported format. The screen is pretty good.

I owes Sony a long overdued praise
I have this 13 inch Sony Digital Paper for almost 10 months now. I did not have the time to put in a review for it until now I feel I owes Sony a praise given I really loved this product.I was hesitant to give it a try because of the "not-so-great" ratings and reviews in Amazon, you knows, nowadays, products with aggregated rating of 4+ stars could still be disappointing and Sony Digital Paper's review and ratings are pretty mixed and tend to be just lukewarm. And unfortunately, Sony is doing so bad in physical store and there is literally no way for me to get a feel and touch the real product before purchasing in the US. And it is a $600+ buy so I hesitated to buy and try then return if unsatisfied. However, when I finally decided to buy it on Amazon and give it a try, I did not regret my purchase at all!Yes, there is some quality issues of the external - but mostly cosmetic , the first one I got did cracked open in one of the bottom edge and it did not look great - although it does not really affect it being functional as newI was able to exchange a new one after I contacted Sony customer service in the US though. For the second one, I put one some nice looking electrician tapes to wrap the edges to prevent them from cracking open - and so far, it is good.Besides, that, the product is great to use. Some of other reviews said it does not support jump to pages, which I found is not true. It does support jumping to page. And if the pdf files do come with bookmark, the device also support jumping to bookmark.Of course, there is still a lot of room for improvement , such as it does not allow creating new bookmark, and such as the zoom in function could be improved. But the important things I need from it are:1. big screen! big screen! big screen!2. light weight!light weight!light weight!3. Page turning speed is ok4. Load large size PDF file and not slow5. good enough battery life6. stylus annotation and writing/drawing7. support navigation8. support wifi/bluetooth/USB connection/transfer/backup to/from computerThe big screen is the most attractive feature to me because I use it to read academic papers.I've tried other large screen ereader such as reMarkable, which is only 10.3 inch and I was not really happy with it (both software and hardware).

Some probems but good for reading and writing specially in travel
Some pixel lost from a part of screen in few days of use. Working is bit slow but touch is pretty sensitive and writing highlighting and reading is awesome in this product

I'm happy with this device! (after about 1 month usage.)
- Easy and intuitive software on PC to connect to DPT-RP1 (is like a file-manager, just copy and paste)- Very light (in my opinion) it is really like a piece of paperboard- NO internet - hey, I see it as absolute advantage - you are reading stuff what you need.- It is POSSIBLE to jump to particular page and to zoom, and to jump to links in .pdf documentsAlso my use-case was, just to read .pdf books and articles not from LCD display, what I'am doing many hours daily, and now I'm completely satisfied with this thing.Thank you,Andrey

Good stuff as average 3.5stars
Good:large screen. Much comfortable for eyes focus on it.Bad:battery lasting not as good as ad.Handwriting is good but more sometimes legacy happens ( screen freezes and have to wait 2 to 4 seconds, don’t know why?) hope software would solve problems

Disappointed
I expected more. The first thing I noticed was that the material was very flimsy. I did not like the writing experience. I didn't like the way it felt. It wouldn't pick up all my marks, and it made my handwritting look like a childs. It definitely did not look like my handwritting. It wasn't very readable.

Great device... for couple of specific uses.
This is a great device. Just know what you are getting into. It isn't a tablet or any type of "smart" device. It does two things: read and edit PDFs, and help take notes....it does those exceptionally well.It would be nice if Sony made a better app to transfer files back n forth though.
