Advertised 8 miles, couldn't pick up McDonald's WiFi while next to it.
There's no way this antenna can go up to 8 miles. I could barely pick-up my neighbors' WiFI no matter how exact I pointed it. The actual effective distance feels like it's only slightly above the average built-in wifi module a phone has, and only under the right conditions. There's two McDonald's within 2 miles of my house. I didn't pick up those connections. In a last-ditch effort, I drove around with it and the best I got was from a Burger King which was around the corner in distance. I had 4 bars out of 5, but the registration page didn't load. It only failed to connect. You'll see other connections on the list, but I didn't have those passwords. I went to BOTH McDonald's around my area, and didn't get anything while next to them. Over here, the specific access point that has internet access is called MCD-CORP. With my phone, I had no issues getting connected while next to them. If I bought two of these antennas and made sure to have direct line of sight with McDonald's which would at max be a distance of 1.2 miles from my house, assuming they'd let me set it up in the first place, I'm positive it wouldn't be enough. I wasted almost $300 in equipment and I don't think I'll be able to just return it all.Aside from that, the product includes different-sized screws that the manual itself doesn't seem to account for, and the shorter screws will give you issues.Update:The primary seller of this antenna is SimpleWiFi themselves. The return was an awful experience. Amazon is bugged (or not even programmed to) in that it doesn't keep track of the return shipment. SimpleWiFi simply keeps the antenna and remains silent, presumably hoping you won't be able to get a representative that understands you did ship it back as proven by USPS's tracking and that Amazon doesn't update to reflect that. Regardless, when I did manage to get someone that understands on the phone, the return status was changed 'to refund issued, expecting return'. Of course, that's from Amazon, not SimpleWiFi.

The instructions are excellent, the parts and tools are also (ok
I will do this review in phases...this is the out of the box and missing a critical part phase. The instructions are excellent, the parts and tools are also (ok, the wrenches really stink, but I didn't have to walk over to my shop to get a ratchet and box end to assemble...so points for lazy or tooless folks). It was missing the reflector, w/o which, its pretty much useless. I should also caveat that I am a retired LtCol of Marines, Communications Officer, so my experience with comm equipment is fairly extensive, and very demanding. I need to place my router and obtain the correct length cabling for my needs. This will be used for a one way shot from my home to a steel outbuilding appx 330 yards away. My hope is to aim to a window with a wireless AP inside and extend service in the building. If that does not work, I will try an outside omni directional antenna on that end and bring service in that way. I am hoping to use my phone with a WiFi analyzer as an ersatz (bet you didn't know Marines could use a word like ersatz...) aiming device, its pretty accurate...and free. I will line of sight it, then adjust with one of my kids as a phone holder.

Cable on horn has protective cap and has good thick shielding
Works well but instructions assume you can 3D assemble in your mind from small the 2d photos.Very few clues which way is up and left or right side. Who knows if I have the antenna assembled upside down. Only the feeder horn has an arrow. Was missing one washer and tiny screws referred to in documentation are located in bag and not on horn. Metric 10mm bolts so you need really deep socket or wrenches or combanations as I used. Cable on horn has protective cap and has good thick shielding. Probably best to have two persons assemble. Tricky doing it by yourself with over under tabs assembly.Takes my signals from my ALFA N which are zero or low to about 20% more. So a signal that was at 10% is now showing 30%. But still too low for reliable connection even though its line of site of 1 mile. But I had to try to see if I could get a xfinitywifi signal for my account. Also picks up 4 xfinitywifi besides my neighbors so I think it can't settle on just one broadcast.Spent about 8 hours fine tuning antenna direction, very precise, just didn't work for my rural location.

This is a VERY Narrow range antenna
This is a VERY Narrow range antenna. We are still tuning it and some of our challenges my not be the antennea itself but, what we are trying to pick up. It does what it says and is well made. Mountain is a bit of a pain.. I wish the back mounting hardware was better thought out, but, works fine for a typical horizontal post mount.

From 0 to a solid 30Mbs Wifi Hotspot
I have a metal workshed (some call it my man cave) around 25 meters from our main property. Over the years I've lined it with insulation and sarking which makes it cozy in winter but I unknowingly made it impervious to all cellphone and wifi signals. A Faraday cage. I bought one of these antennas mounted it externally and linked it up to a netgear range extender inside the shed. Now I have 30mbs download and 20mbs upload hotspot connected to my 2.4g network. Wife hates my shed even more now. :)

Worth it. Simple
This thing was easy to set up. Mounted it on a 6 foot steel fence post. Tripled my wifi speed from about 200 yards away. I paired it up with an alpha wifi extender and an alpha wifi router in my rv. I'm pulling close to 20 mbps from a source that is supposed to be 30 mbps but rarely is. Definitely does what they say it will.

Not going to believe anything that alfa says about what ...
Not going to believe anything that alfa says about what there stuff will do. Everything that I've had did no where near what they said. So I really can't say about what this antenna can do. It was well made.

Great for campgrounds with sketcho wifi.
Easy assembly and use. I paired it with an Alfa wifi adapter. Stronger signal with this a few hundred yards away then I previously got in the parking lot next to the building. (campground) A+
