Workhorse DVD Player!!!
I have had a few of these players and it is really reliable. I have it running 24/7 and each one lasts about 11 months. That's over 8,000 hours of use non-stop. That is ridiculous. Always great sound and picture. Usually it is the sound that goes when they eventually die, but if you take it apart and clean out the guts with a little compressed air, you can usually bring it back to life to at least serve as a break-down back up. I bought 3 of these last time so I would always have a new one ready to go. At the price they are at now, they will all be gone soon. Toshiba should keep making this machine!

Junk
I bought this as an inexpensive DVD player for my office at home. When it arrived, it had a large dent in the cover and no HDMI cables as advertised.

Worthy of a second purchace
Plays ALL of my burned DVDs which is the entire point of buying this rather crude little box. My first lasted 3 years of almost nightly movie watching. Hard to complain but some still do. Perhaps there are bad ones out there. I got a good one last time, I hope I get a good one again. Price point makes it a no brainer. My first one was bought at BJ's Club for 39.99 and lasted the afore mentioned 3 years. That works out to what? 13.00 a year? To play burned DVD's? Not may other current players do that. A great value.

Needed a new remote
I purchased this player because the remote on the one I have finally gave up the ghost. The whole player with the remote was just a few bucks more than the remote alone so buying both seemed to be the thing to do.

Great price, but in the end, you'll pay.
I bought this model to replace my previous Toshiba DVD player, which broke down despite only moderate use. I thought that maybe it was because I had not used it too often, or some other mumbo jumbo. Point is, I bought this DVD player for use in my bedroom, where it shouldn't receive too heavy use, but sadly, found that despite the terrific price, there's a flaw: it's a cheap hunk of garbage.First, the positives:1) Price. For an upconverting DVD player, ~$40 is a great price, and when it comes with an HDMI cable and batteries for the remote, you're getting a fantastic value if it works.2) Picture. When it works, it's got a great picture. Still no match for true blu ray or HD, but for those who don't feel like adopting yet, this is a great halfway point that gets you a decent picture if you have an HDMI connection.3) Easy setup. Not much to do, this is as close to plug and play as you're going to get.Now the bad:1) It's a throwaway piece of junk. It's light, made of crud material, and feels like a cheap plastic box. Which it mostly is.2) Poor finishing. The underside has quite a few exposed screws which, while unlikely, could really scratch up any surface it's placed on if you're not careful.3) The remote. Black buttons on a black remote with tiny text. No backlight. Minor quibbles, but it bugs me.4) It's LOUD. It sounds like an electric pencil sharpener when it's loading. The motor sounds like a small car when it's running. And not in a good way, like a Honda Civic. Like a damn exploding pinto. But the granddaddy of them all is that this item:5) Breaks very, very, very, very, very easily. Like its predecessor, it can't take more than a few hours of play at a time. I've had to go back and forth and back and forth between the store returning and replacing. Okay, I bought one, accidentally left it on for about 4 hours when I fell asleep watching a tv series, then the sound broke! I exchanged it thinking that it was a fluke. Sure enough, the next one was defective too. I've given up on it.Despite the price tag, this player's only worth it if you intend to use it only rarely. Otherwise, pay the extra money and buy a player that will last.

The Best Upconvertion DVD but sound issues.
This Upconvertion DVD have several features other upconvertion DVDs won't offer. and at less than $50.00 its a lot better than the expensive and so called 6 times resolution blu-rays (newer blu-ray movies, older ones have the same resolution as a regular DVD, Buying one of this blu-rays is a scam). You may even adjust the brightness and Contrast to increase or decrease light environment. Using it with a 120hz or greater TV is even better as the DVD up-converts the image and the TV multiplies the frame rates to increase image quality dramatically. I recommend it as I already have 6 months using it and have tried pretty much everything out there. Other brands don't even compares to my blu-ray upconvertion capabilities but the Toshiba excels it easily. Any HDMI Cable will do._________________________________________________________________________________Update: The sound has died on 2 of the previous models. Fortunately I bought it at Costco and they refunded my money. that is why I'm degrading the review from 5 to 3 stars.

Poor product quality - died within 4 months! Just past 90-day warranty
Bought the product in Costco as it looked v. attractive loaded with features. It performed good while it lasted, however, the unit died within 4 months just past the 90-day warranty period! Toshiba service was good enough to return my email within 36 hours offering a replacement product SD-6100 for $50.00. Ironically, this replacement product also has bad ratings everywhere - and, for product quality too! What a trip! Guess Toshiba has found a recurring money-making scheme with these bad quality products...
