The original score soundtrack to the all new feature DVD film from Warner Bros./DC Animation, Batman: Gotham Knight. This thrilling anime-inspired film consists of six spellbinding tales from diverse creators, including Batman Begins screenwriter David S. Goyer, that are directed by some of Japan's most acclaimed anime filmmakers. Composers Christopher Drake, (Hellboy Animated Features),Robert Kral, (Superman: Doomsday, Angel) and Kevin Manthei (Justice League: New Frontier) bring these complex stories to life with a thrilling, emotionally-charged score that probes the depths of Batman's tortured soul.

CD is great, seller is bad.
I love the music, that's why I bought the CD. I made the mistake though of not buying directly from Amazon. The CD came in a case that was cracked, smashed, and broken. It's a miracle the CD itself was undamaged. I won't be buying from this seller again.

Amazing soundtrack that will stay with you long after the movies have finished, makes for interesting listening with the three distinct compositional voices contributing iconic themes that work perfectly to compliment the movie or as stand alone pieces. Very brooding and atmospheric but then so is anything Batman.

Gotham Knight: Not your usual animated movie score
How is it I'm the first one taking the time to write a review for this brilliant CD? It's been out for months, has it totally escaped everyone's notice?Batmam: Gotham Knight was an unusual experiment designed to take advantage of the Bat-mania surrounding the release of The Dark Knight in theaters. Gotham Knight was to be an anthology of six Batman stories, shown as one animated movie. It was to be directed separately by six noted Japanese animators, written by American writers, voiced by American voice actors (most notably Kevin Conroy, reprising his legendary voice of Batman in the Animated Series and Justice League), and scored by three separate American composers. All to be overseen by DC Animated Universe producer Bruce Timm. The movie itself has garnered the full spectrum of differing reviews. Some revulsed at the idea of Batman presented as anime. But I would argue that with so much American influence in this project, that it's merely anime-like; especially with the clearly American score music accompanying it.What you're getting with this CD is that score music, 3 different composers scoring 2 stories each. The composers worked independantly of each other, so each of their work is very different thematically. The liner notes contain each composer's thoughts on each story, and believe me, over the course of 26 tracks on this CD, the music will go from strange to traditional action to epic. Listening to the disc straight through is almost as much an adventure as watching the movie itself.People can argue the merits of Gotham Knight. Some Batman fans have labeled it as a failed experiment, but I loved it. It dared to be different, to tell Batman from different points of view, even if it was in ways some might not be easily familiar with. Trust me, our Caped Crusader is in there. And the music you'll find here is an integral part of that. As long-time Batman writer/editor Dennis O'Neil has said many times, Batman has been told so many different ways in so many different formats over the decades, yet he is still fundamentally the same caped hero everyone in the world recognizes. This music is Batman music, there's a lot of action and pathos to be found on this CD, and with a Batman score, what more can you ask for?

We bought this music for our son. He enjoys listening to musical scores from different movies. He has a liking to science fiction.

Gotham Shight
Batman: Gotham Knight, from 2008, is a mostly forgotten Batman anthology movie of seven short stories. With so many DC animations coming out in the past decade (most of them fair to flop) its easy for some of them to get lost in the shuffle. Gotham Knight wasn't half bad though, and there are some segments to it that I really enjoy. The score though, is pretty lame.A total of three composers (Christopher Drake, Robert J. Kral, and Kevin Manthei) attempted this project with little effort/skill and a lacklustre result with zero overall theme or texture and only a couple of very mild allusions to the live action movie. These scores are just loud and noisy. This is quite inexcusable considering the backdrop of Gotham City and the rich melancholy of the Batman mythology can inspire so many wonderful sounds. Though this takes a talented composer and the trinity of Drake, Kral, and Manthei (essentially Warner in-house musicians) just don't have the ability. When even Batman video games from the early 90s have a better soundtrack you know you're listening to a flop. I got my copy signed by Drake, though it's absolutely not the pride of my collection. Just skip this and go straight to Mask of the Phantasm.
