Fundamentals of Composition (ENGLISH edition)

Old classic of basic composition concepts to supplement my drawing class. I’m reading as I need but so far helpful. Arrived in good condition.

This book generally covers the steps to painting in an academic style with notes on composition. It is good basic knowledge for the beginning painter. Using full-color examples of masterworks by European and, primarily, Russian artists it moves from concept to completion of a masterwork and what the artist must consider in the search to communicate the concept chosen. This is not an in-depth book on composition, life drawing or painting. It is a primer of the steps an artist takes in creating a masterwork. It is inspiring in its examples of the artist's sketches that lead to the finished piece. You can see the thinking process clearly. I would recommend this book to the beginning painter. As the title says, it should start them off on a fundamental foundation.If you are looking for a book that is more in-depth on composition I would recommend Composing Pictures By Donald W. Graham through Silman-James Press (ISBN: 978-1-935247-00-5).
