Great recipes that have me feeling good!
Every woman goes through different cravings while pregnant, and I think that the negative reviews are coming from women who are sensitive about being told that eating candy and highly processed foods is bad for you when that is all they're craving while pregnant. If you're craving heavy meat and carb dishes during your pregnancy this book may not be for you.But if you're like me and find that your body is craving lighter, healthier meals with little to no meat, this book would be great for you. This is my first pregnancy, I'm at week 16 and 3 days and I cannot bring myself to eat chicken, fish or anything from restaurants bc of how heavy and salty most food is. I *LOVE* some of the recipes in this book which actually have me feeling good after eating! So far my favorites are the Roasted Vegetable Soup, the Arugula Salad and the Vegan Banana Muffins. Although some of the recipes are super quick to make, like the salads and the breakfast recipes, most of the others I've tried require me to make them on a Sunday in preparation for the rest of the week. The roasted vegetable soup recipe makes 2-3 days of lunch/dinner for me (depending how much my hubby has too) and the vegan banana muffins make a great breakfast or snack that lasts about 5 days depending on how much you share :) Trust me, people will want them after they try them - they're the first muffins I've eaten that don't leave me feeling like I have a food coma after - my parents and hubs all love them so I've been making a batch every week.I think this book will have most women feeling their best if they make most of their meals from here. I still eat my processed cookies and the occasional cup noodles that I crave once in a while but for sure the recipes from this book are the reason that I've been feeling good during my pregnancy and motivated enough to work out at home almost every day. Highly recommend giving it a try.

Accurate
The information is totally accurate. While consuming GMOs by themselves, is not necessarily harmful, the substance of that sentence is misleading. Food grown the conventional agriculture way, is never just “by itself”. It is ALWAYS doused in glyphosate and herbicide, and pesticide. The soil is in fact dead, instead of teeming with beneficial microbes and fungi and other life. Every year more and more and more layers of chemical fertilizer must be applied to maintain production. However, this food is devoid of the mineral content we could expect in our food 50 years ago. I encouraged you to do your research and read unbiased science on these facts, rather than read the articles that are published by people who profit from you thinking that GMOs and the subsequent chemical spray is the best thing ever.Bottom line: the recipes are fun, the info is spot-on, and I sensed no demeaning tone. She is stating the truth because the truth about what’s good for you and what isn’t will nourish your body and baby!

Good info
Great book, lots of good information. One negative is the with the recipes They are sorted by category as expected but I wish they included something about which month they go with. I'm constantly flipping back to the description to see which recipes I should fix.

It's an okay book....
I personally didn't find much use for this book. Pretty much told me everything I already know about eating healthy. I guess the upside of it was the appropriate times during pregnancy when it's more important to get certain nutrients and why, for both mom and baby. Otherwise, it's very anti-meat which I found rather weird to turn readers away from if they're not already vegetarian and/or vegan. I've been advised that especially during pregnancy, it's not a good idea to switch to a vegetarian lifestyle if you're a current meat eater due to improper knowledge of making sure you'll get enough of the nutrients necessary during pregnancy. Recipes in the back of the book look yummy, whether pregnant or not, but I wouldn't recommend this back based off of them.

Great
Got for daughters first pregnancy. She’s tried the brith abs feels it’s gonna be a staple in her next 9 months . Seen reviews about complaining about organic food mostly . Healthy start for baby is worth a few bucks .

Great for newly pregnant people.
Jessica Alba has written a super terrific new pregnant mom to be. It was a gift. The descriptions of baby size, what to eat to feel great, exercise etc...is beautifully wrapped up in this book. She loved it!

Good recipes with a mixture of ones I wouldn’t try
I was excited to get this cookbook. My husband and I are trying for a baby and I wanted to start early with getting the best food. Some of the recipes in here are on my list to try, others I wouldn’t even bother with..eggplant stackers? No thanks. It’s not bad, but not great. I’m also a picky eater so I’m looking forward to trying some of the recipes in here.I do like the trimester information at the beginning of the book.It doesn’t include photos of every recipe. A few photos are scattered in the book.

Unrealistic advice - unless you want a fully organic plant based diet.
I really didn't like this book at all. The author's writing style is "holier than thou". I have a healthy lifestyle but this book berates anyone that eats meat and doesn't buy organic vegetables. The book lists vegetables that you absolutely must buy organic because regular vegetables are full of pesticides. The nail in the coffin for me was the suggestion that you should not buy "anything" that has sugar listed on the label. Also, the recipe book has very few pictures which I find uninspiring in a cook book.I'll save you £10.99 and summarise the book... basically only eat organic vegetables, drink only water (add a bit of lemon if you're feeling adventurous!) and get plenty of exercise. The end.

Rubbish facts ! Ok recipes, no pictures l. Don’t wast your money
Disappointed.Playing on the fact th book is written by a Dr who knows nothing about the process of lactation and the worldwide Unicef baby friendly initiative1: not enough pictures for a cookbook2: utter rubbish regarding foods for breastfeeding. There is no evidence to support galactogue foods, yes SOME women find them useful, often a placebo effect, from actually sitting down and eating and drinking, which reduces the stress hormone and causes relaxation - not necessarily the food or drink!. Baby stimulates milk supply, if there is an issue with position and attachment no amount of carrots are going to help !!! Women who are malnourished make perfectly wonderful breast milk with the same benefits to baby as women who live on kale !3: utter rubbish regarding giving probiotics to a baby - there has been a huge worldwide study regarding probiotics which showed NO evidence of the benefit of probiotics. Your baby’s gut flora does not need the support, breast milk does this without wasting your money4: babies do not feed every 2.5-3.5 hours, babies should be fed responsibly - according to their needs with a minimum of 8 feeds in 24 hours5: why advise women to breastfeed for 4 months? Unicef, WHO and the American Academy of paediatrics recommend minimum 6 monthsDear Jennifer Lang - Please consult a midwife next time you choose to write about something you know nothing about

Be cautious as recipes may contain ingredients which are not safe during pregnancy!
I am not a nutritionist but the recipes in this book contain some herbs which I’ve read are contraindicated during pregnancy. Lemongrass is an example where multiple websites advise against consumption:“What we do know is that citral, which is one of the compounds found in lemongrass and contributes to its signature sweet lemon scent, can be harmful during pregnancy (source: International Journal of Molecular Sciences, Memorial Sloan Kettering).Researchers recently found that citral can cause birth defects and problems metabolizing vitamin A (source: International Journal of Molecular Sciences).”If you go ahead and buy this book I would recommend researching the ingredients (particularly recipes containing herbs) to be on the safe side. Maybe I am being ultra cautious but I couldn’t not make others aware of this.

Feels very judgemental
I bought this book in hopes of finding lots of recipes suitable for pregnancy. Instead, it felt like the recipes and narrative throughout the book were simply patronising. One of the bits that has stuck in my head is where it talks about drinking and breastfeeding. It was incredibly judgemental rather than useful and informative. It also talks about organic, organic, organic but when it comes to one of the recipes (homemade cheese and tomato pizza), it’s asking you to use store-bought dough…. Which is fine, but when your book is about how you have to avoid processed foods and to eat organic, it doesn’t add up and contradicts itself. Really not what I expected when I saw the star rating on Amazon………
