fixed seized door latch issue
these replacement latches made my 2005 new-to-me whole again so that i could open and close the suicide doors of my 1500 Z71. The doors were seized shut when I bought it, and getting the doors open was a brutal exercise in patience, but now I have a 4-door Silverado, and I will keep the latches greased and exercised so that this does not happen to me. From reading on Silverado forums, this is a common issue with older trucks, just glad it's fixed now.

It was a pain, but it works again
I had the infamous lower rear door latch rusted shut on my 2005 Silverado extended cab. The old latch wasn’t remotely budging when trying to open. I climbed in the back seat from the driver’s side which luckily still did open. From there, I removed the 2 screws on the rear passenger door that were located by the cup holder and by the handle. Then, I pried the lower part of the interior door panel loose at the bottom. This was tough to do as the bottom of the door panel was somewhat pinched at the bottom by the door being closed. Once I got the bottom of the door panel pried open a couple of inches, I could see the upper part of the latch. I saturated the latch with PB Blaster. After letting that soak for a couple of days, I tried again unsuccessfully to open the door. So, I did what any other frustrated man would do. I repositioned the interior door panel back in its original position, minus installing the 2 screws. Then, while in the backseat, I sat down facing the passenger door. While an assistant held up on the door latch, I gave a swift kick to the lower part of the door near the latch. I noticed that it was moving. Another kick and the door opened a bit more. After 4 or 5 kicks, the door popped open. Now I could remove the interior door panel with ease. I swapped out the rusty and crusty latch for the new one. I opened and closed it a few times to make sure everything was good. Then, I reinstalled the interior door panel and went on with my life.TAKE NOTE: One thing you may want to do is add a 9/32” external snap ring around the plastic retainer to keep it from falling out of the latch. My plastic piece fit loosely and didn’t “snap” into the body of the latch as it should. That is why I only gave it 4 stars. If that plastic retainer falls out of the latch, a person would be right back where they started having a door that won’t open. I actually installed TWO of the 9/32” external snap rings to give me a better sense of security knowing that it wasn’t going to fall out. I picked the snap rings up at a Lowe’s store.
