Even if one of the cartridge hadn't come apart, jammed in my printer, and broke it, this was a disaster. Ink everywhere. I kid you not. When you pull off the tape, it gushes everywhere. Complete mess. But about the printer: I've had my Brother MFC 490 CW since 2009, I have used cheap ink throughout, and it has been flawless. Flawless. So this isn't me not knowing what I'm doing. I put this cartridge in, but then needed to take it out. When I did, it fell apart. The black part jammed in the machine. In pulling that out, the release tab broke. I put a new cartridge in just to see if you really need the tab. Oh, yes, you do. The second cartridge is completely jammed, the release tab is completely broken, and, looking for a solution online, there is no fix for this that isn't more expensive than buying a new machine. This machine has been perfect, flawless for 11 years, through thick and thin and at least a couple different brands of economy ink. Now I have to get a new printer I never wanted. And you know what the kicker is? It was an "Amazon's choice". Can you beat that? Do NOT buy this ink unless you are a risk taker. There are other brands that don't shower you with ink, and don't fall apart and get stuck in your machine.

I've been using the Brother products in my MFC6490 for years. These are obviously not OEM but I put the first one (black) in my printer today and it's working. How they can sell 10 of these for $7.99 when one OEM costs $15.99, I don't know. Seems too good to be true, I'll monitor and update this review if I run into performance issues.

Waist of money! This does not fit my printer even though it said it was compatible. The ink cartridge was smaller than the name brand cartridge and would not insert properly in my printer. Furthermore, when you remove the tab you are instructed to to insert it into the printer the ink literally gushes out and got everywhere!

I have only used one of the black cartridges so far but it works fine in my Brother MFC-495CW just fine. The only problem was when I pulled off the yellow strip covering the fill hole, ink gushed out of the hole. There is no hole in the previous black cartridge so I think I will leave the yellow strip on these and see if they work.

I keep going back to the same companies on Amazon. The product is perfect. No smears or leaks. Just works great.

Messy I have only had it installed a week and had to self clean the printer 2 due to ink clogs.

I was pleasantly surprised that it printed great. I never had any issues really. Twice it didn't register, but I simply reloaded and it worked perfectly! I've used up the entire box and about to buy another!

Great value as distance learning started after purchase. I am soooooooooo glad I had this on hand. Now if only I had dirt cheap printer papet
