Misconceptions: Truth, Lies, and the Unexpected on the Journey to Motherhood

No Alternative Facts
What I had long suspected about the birth experience in America is beautifully exposed here with meticulous research. Our collective brainwashing by Big Pharma and the medical establishment is all the more heinous when you consider the vulnerable young families who have been targeted. I wish I had known about this book when I was instinctively seeking an alternative to the Path of Guilt I was being forced down due to the Insurance Industry's support of the all powerful medical machine that preys on nature's driving forces of the pregnant woman and the protective instincts of the loving partner. Naomi Wolf has written the book I could not find anywhere when I was searching for truth, courage and an end to the unrelenting suspicion I and my husband had been "played" by unwitting virtuosos. We owe her a debt of gratitude and, if she desires, a cleansing hypnotherapy session for her unfortunate birthing outcome now that it has served us all.

Wonderful, beautiful book
I thoroughly enjoyed this book from end to end. First, it was informative. I have never been pregnant, but may become so before my time is out, and I learned a lot about pregnancy. Even if you never plan to become pregnant, there is much useful information here. From a practical perspective, Ms. Wolf offers much advice and food for thought on how to deliver one's child. This information offers a good perspective worth considering in order to make an informed, balanced decision.I love the style of the writing in this book. I enjoy the feminist perspective. I feel so many books on child-birthing are not really about the woman; this one is very much about the woman involved. No matter your age or gender, I highly recommend reading this.

Please look elsewhere if you want real educational info
Not sure how to rate this book but it is certainly outdated. Sure, it’s biased but also I find it to be truthful. Hospitals want you to be a docile laboring woman, if they didn’t drugs, monitoring, persistent cervical checks and timing labor wouldn’t be a thing. If you want a medicated birth then you’re a great candidate to be in the hospital. If you want a natural birth I strongly recommend you find a veteran midwife who delivers at home. The real reason I dislike this book is it only complains about how horrible hospital settings are instead of giving resources to have a better birth. If you are looking for real education on labor and pregnancy I would suggests Pam England’s books. Also, Kimberly Johnson- the fourth trimester for education about postpartum. If you are looking for a natural hospital birth I highly encourage you to hire a doula, the doula will advocate for you so you can focus on laboring (know your rights!).

Great for all moms.
I'm half way through this book and can't wait to finish. The raw honesty in which Wolf conveys her stories, thoughts and personal experiences is amazing. It's a book that every mother and expecting mother should read.

I recommend to anyone thinking about having a baby!
I really enjoyed this book- it gave me a lot of information I had never heard before! I gave it to my girlfriend to read after me. I don't know if she was as impacted as I was but this book has made me consider how I will give birth to my baby.

I love this book
I love this book! I first read it 9 years ago with my first son and re read it for this pregnancy. It is full of great information and completely helped me form the idea of the type of natural pregnancy and births that I wanted to have. I am so glad I found this book and really recommend it to others.
